At least with MLB The Show 20 you can easily replace the Indians name and logo yourself. They likely will return to the Cleveland Spiders name since there is history there with it. Can't wait until people make a big deal out of this, like it's just a team name, calm down.

Assuming the sources in the article are correct, the name change is most likely to take place in 2022. So no Cleveland Baseball team shenanigans here. I like the Spiders followed by the Rockers. Either one of those would be a solid choice.

As for The Show if Cleveland did change the name in time for the '21 season, SDS could luck out and they choose a name that's already in the game. The generic dialog wouldn't need any adjustments then.

Worst case scenario for audio if they came up with something crazy, the just edit the audio file from saying "Indians" to just saying "Cleveland" in all cases. While certainly not perfect it would work at launch and maybe patched later? I dont see new audio work being done with all of the new lockdowns and such.

Hopefully they leave the the old uniforms in the game as throwbacks. I always switch to the Rick Vaughn era uniforms when I play them

I’ve honestly always loved the smiling Indian logo. I think it’s one of the coolest logos sports. I can see why fans of the team are mad to see the name and logo go. That being said it’s clearly offensive to a certain group of people so they have no choice but to dump it. What would your choice be to replace the name? Spiders? Rockers? Kings (named after LeBron lol)

Same could be said about the Yankees as well. I'm willing to bet that never changes though.

That said, after 42 years, I will be finding a new team. So I really don't care what the cheap a$$ Dolans pick as a name. I'd go to the Braves (always been my NL team bc of my mom and grandfather) but they will end up changing names as well. So, I may just watch the Rays since I live near Tampa.

This is kind of sad actually, I have Native American heritage and these never once bothered me, I always thought it kept our heritage alive.

I don't see how it's offensive. Same goes for Redskins. Team names are supposed to be tough, strong, a force. A football field, a baseball diamond are fields of battle and thats what I see when I see Indians. Mascots are suppose to be funny and appealing to entertain kids. That's what I saw in chief wahoo. When said it was offensive, I said, ok and let chief wahoo go. But you can take 90% of any sports team name and it will offend ppl one way or another. For pete sakes Giants could be offensive to little people, so should the Giants have to change the team name as well? Padres, Saints could offend atheists, so they next?

My exact thoughts. But it won't stop there, it never does, outrage culture is always in need of more, and people will always find something to be offended with.

I'm sure some people will dismiss that claim, because the "problematic" branding is taken care of now! But what happens after this? And really, who's opinion matters the most when it comes to things like this, the people who complain the most, or the people who don't have a problem? Let's limit this to INDIANS fans, let's say there's 10 million Indians fans, and 9,980,000 have 0 problem with the name, but 20,000 people do?

This is all nonsense in the end, but I'm sure anybody who thinks the name is ok and thinks we should stop trying to erase every bit of history and tradition that could even be construed or misconstrued as bad is a racist... yawn.

(Cue the history and tradition itself are racist crowd. They're called the Cleveland Indians, not the Cleveland Aboriginal Skull Smashers. I'm a minority btw, so save the virtue signaling with me.)

I can understand defending a name like Indians (though Chief Wahoo is a racist caricature - I don't blame anyone for finding it appealing for other reasons and feeling sentimental about it, but it is what it is), Braves (though the chop needs to go for good, speaking as a fan of the team, and I wouldn't really care if they changed the name), or Blackhawks, but Redskins was only ever really a slur. It also doesn't help that the guy who chose the name Redskins was a massive and open bigot.

Anyway I do think it's nevertheless the right thing to do and they just go with Spiders and do it quick.

KC Chiefs might be able to avoid it without anyone caring. I don’t think most people see anything wrong with simply the name ‘Chiefs’, and as far as I know, unlike the Redskins and Indians, they currently don’t and haven’t recently had any logos or mascots that could be considered offensive or racist tied to them and their name.

Since the Braves have already caught some attention, I’d say the Chiefs are in a better position to avoid pressure to rebrand then the others. Especially a better spot then the Redskins and Indians.
