Just got The Show and have a few questions

I've always been obsessed with The Show since the first iteration way back in the day and bought it first day every year from 2006-2018, but life and age (and frankly the fact that I always get bored with the game after a while) has taken me away from it so I never bought '19 and barely played 18'. I finally got the new game when I saw it on sale last week.

I had a couple questions and was hoping someone could elucidate:

    1) When you're pitching, in prior years you used to be able to push L2 for the pitcher to turn his head and look at the lead runner on base. I see it doesn't do that anymore. Did they completely remove that or is there some other way to do it? Obviously not a big deal, but seems like an odd thing to take out.

    2) You know how when you're the pitcher, the first pitch of every at bat is from a different angle and you have to choose from the buttons at the way bottom of the screen instead of the normal view? Is there a way to remove that feature? I find it annoying that you have to push the button to see which pitch the AI is suggesting, and you can't see the catcher's fingers or where in the strike zone the pitch is suggested. Another thing that is odd to me that they would change.

    3) For fielding, I've always done analog, but I see the new meter looks intriguing. I've heard that fielding this year more immersive but I wasn't sure if that was due to the meter or what. For me using analog, fielding doesn't seem much different than prior years. Do people suggest switching to meter?

    4) Last but not least, does anyone have any good suggestions for one of the downloadable slider sets to use for analog/zone batting?

    Thanks!

1.) Yes, it's still there. You have to pick your pitch first, and then hold L2 and he'll look over.

2.) Yes you can turn it off. Pause the game. Go to options, then presentation. You'll see Pre Pitch Cameras. Set it to none.

3.) Button Accuracy is the best way to field in my opinion. The meter moves quicker this year which makes for a bit more concentration while throwing. Give it a shot!

4.) I'm not sure about this one. I play default Hall of Fame

Still there, but you can't just tap it anymore. A few years back they made it so you have to hold down the L2 for about 2 seconds to visually check the runner.

      2) You know how when you're the pitcher, the first pitch of every at bat is from a different angle and you have to choose from the buttons at the way bottom of the screen instead of the normal view? This is a feature that was introduced in '20 - but the API pitch suggestions getting lost in those new dramatic camera angles may have been a bit of an oversight. They can be minimized/turned completely off from the user settings menu, under presentation options. Change Pre-pitch cameras to either Hitting Only or None if you don't want it to interfere with your pitching. And, as always when changing user profile settings, make sure you're changing them for the same profile that you're taking into games.

      3) For fielding, I've always done analog, but I see the new meter looks intriguing. I've heard that fielding this year more immersive but I wasn't sure if that was due to the meter or what. I don't really have much of an opinion on the new meter - I still find pretty much all of them easy enough that I rarely ever make throwing errors even with low-skilled fielders. Personally I just use Buttons when I'm playing offline, not because it's easy but because it's the only way I can make my own team respect the difference between throw accuracy ratings. I'm sure opinions will vary quite a bit on this topic.

      4) Last but not least, does anyone have any good suggestions for one of the downloadable slider sets to use for analog/zone batting?

I play with my own sliders, so I'm not gonna be much help on this one. But I'd really recommend playing some games at the defaults before doing anything - they can be very very good if you find the right difficulty for yourself. You can also try Dynamic Difficulty, which will increase or decrease the difficulty depending on how well you do in the game - though in the beginning it will likely be a lot of upward movement through the difficulties until you plateau. It can give you a pretty good idea of where to start, and it's also the only way to use the "Plus" difficulties that are in-between the selectable ones.

      Thanks!

You sound like me haha. Haven't played since The Show '17. Decided to pick '20 up while on sale for like $12 on PSN the other week.

I didn't like the pre-pitch angle preventing me from seeing the catcher's location, either, so I ended up turning it off completely.

Welcome back brother. If you’re going to use zone I’d recommend TNK sliders which can be found on the slider forum of this site. I’d recommend JoshC’s sliders in general. Have some fun!

Thanks man! It's good to be back. I just hope this year's iteration can hold my interest longer than in recent years. I miss the days when I was a younger man and was obsessed with this game and my franchise (and this forum!).

You can’t set the difficulty level for fielding alone this year right? I play on hall of fame but still find the throw meter way to easy. I maybe miss my spot and end up in the yellow once every 100 plays or so...

Correct, unfortunately. I think it was two years ago that they de-coupled throw difficulty from the actual user setting and made it standard across all of them.

Like I said in my post above, this is why I just use Buttons offline - I don't make throwing errors any other way.

Yeah once I got used to the new meter, I don't throw many errors anymore
