RTTS Cant Cover Second on a Steal
I have a 2nd Baseman that will not cover 2nd when runners are stealing 2nd. I don’t even get any heads up. Even if I move into Double Play position and cheat over. I never make it to the bag, my catcher throws it to me 5 feet off the bag.Tags: None -

That is a common bug from at least 19 and 20. It’s why I stopped playing second and only play shortstop if I want to play a middle infielder. I have always had issues with it. I don’t know what SDS is doing wrong but it’s been the way for years now. -

Re: RTTS Cant Cover Second on a Steal
Yes this is unfortunate for those of us who like to play infield position defense. I fell for it again this year with Chris Gills presentation. Even though he spent very little time talking about infield play. I was assured when he starts saying we have catches at all heights and staffing for infield players and paths to the ball and how they watch thousands of videos.
But you cannot make a basic cover bag for an out play and have to rely on a tag animation for the out. It’s frustrating when you see the CPU go into 2nd or 3rd base and your controlled player does nothing but stands there. Even though they say the Baez tag is in the game this year (last years cover athlete) it will only happen for the CPU regardless of your player ratings.
Especially on a organic play it’s even worse you can easily over run the bag even when that blue light indicator on the field shows up. Have you ever had a ball hit into play and that light blue spot indicator starts to tell you to run to a different spot all over the field and you never receive the cutoff throw as if you are not even on the field! It’s laughable at this point for infield single player used controlled defense or RTTS.
I have pictures of CPU controlled players covering the bag with their foot planted on the bag with their glove out ready to receive the ball during gameplay. It looks cool and realistic result to the situation on the field. I want to tweet the image at MLB THE SHOW so bad and ask how come I can’t do this with my Player Lock or RTTS player. If so what are the controls?????
After many years of games iterations I don’t think it’s something that can be patched. And fielding overhaul stream needs a different title next year cause it’s clearly not working. I know they try at SDS and the job can be difficult. But we shouldn’t have to wait another two game iterations for this to be corrected or even acknowledged.
The streams and marketing got me again SMH! At least you know those tactics work LOL!Proud member of the 0.04%Comment

Yup, this is EXACTLY why I switched to Shortstop.
At least on SS, I cover the base on steal attempts.Xbox SX gamertag: Indrigoth, PS5 gamertag: Xaegoth, feel free to add me!

As someone who made the switch as well I think they like me just play as SS and don’t play 2nd. 2nd is prone to this issue in RTTS for years so if you wanna play middle infielder go SS.Comment

Not that I have discovered, no.
And I have played RTTS about 95 hours (yes, I have no life and am a glutton for punishment).Xbox SX gamertag: Indrigoth, PS5 gamertag: Xaegoth, feel free to add me!

Re: RTTS Cant Cover Second on a Steal
Re: RTTS Cant Cover Second on a Steal
Disclaimer: I do not have MLBTS 21.
I started a 2B RTTS player back in MLBTS 17 and have carried this player forward every year with the Y2Y saves and am now using him with MLBTS 20. This player is on the Braves meaning I took Ozzie Albies spot in the lineup (though he is still on the team despite a few times I detected and vetoed his trade to some other team). During the offseason prior to the 2021 season I was prompted by the game if I would be interested in a position change and because of this glitch with 2B and stolen bases, plus because I wanted to get Albies back into the day to day lineup, I said "yes I would consider moving to 3B". However through all of the 2021 Spring Training and now one month into the season, I am still at 2B, still unable to cover the bag on steals and still wondering if I will ever be moved to another position. I highly suspect that I will be at 2B until the All Star break in the middle of July as that milestone of each season always seems to trigger some sort of roster change in the game. So only time will tell. But what do I do if they do not move Albies to 2B? Despite Albies being the second highest ranking 2B player in the Braves organization behind only my RTTS 2B guy, what do I do if the game decides to promote someone from the AAA squad instead.
MLB The Show and RTTS can be an awesome game at times. But there is things in this mode that sometimes makes little sense and as borked as the mode appears to be in this year's game, it has had issues for a number of years now.
PS: should of seen what this game did to me the other day. With two outs in the bottom of the 9th of a tie game and my 2B player was in the normal position. The base runner at 1B attempts to steal 2B and since I am so far off the bag I don't have a hope in hell in cover the steal attempt. What happened next? The catcher threw the ball over my head to where I was standing not where I was attempting to go to cover the steal attempt, the ball sails into the gap in the outfield between CF and RF. The base runner steals 2B, then takes 3B. But it does not end there. The base runner then takes home and game over all because SDS won't fix this issue with the 2B covering steal attempts. Forcing everyone into DD is a much higher priority for them.

I FIGURED IT OUT GUYS. NO NEED TO SWITCH TO SS. YOU LITERALLY JUST HAVE TO HOLD Y (OR TRIANGLE IF ON PS) AND YOUR GUY WILL GO COVER SECOND. I CANT BELIEVE I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT.Comment

Re: RTTS Cant Cover Second on a Steal
I wonder if this works when playing SS and a ball is hit into the outfield and you want to cover 2nd base. I am sure I have hit every button combination along with the analog stick when trying to cover the 2nd base bag.
Also makes me wonder why are there blue arrows telling you to cover the bag! Shouldn't the UI tell you to press and hold "Y" or "Triangle"?Proud member of the 0.04%Comment
