Is there a forum or thread just for RTTS 20?
I've decided not to upgrade to 21, there is too much of 20 that I have yet to play or learn.

I've been playing just on the CPU and play as a beginner. I guess because I like being good.....lol
However I do want to start playing at different levels.

1. Should I go one level at a time until I get comfortable

2. I use buttons for everything, once again because it's easier. when hitting I get 3 pitches unless there is a pitch out. I never get thrown a ball. why?

I have so many questions but I will take it slow. and before you guys give me a hard time be easy I'm a old man of 65 learning a young mans game.....lol
Thanks in advance

Awesome to hear that there are so many different generations that can enjoy this game!

To answer your questions, 1 & 2 really tie together. On beginner/rookie, the pitcher pretty much just throws meatballs down the middle, which helps when it comes to user success.

Dynamic difficulty is a decent option. It will adjust itself as you play, keeping things around your skill level.

Upping the difficulty and adjusting difficulty sliders could also be helpful, but requires a bit of tinkering. The higher the difficulty, the more likely that a pitcher will come in and out of the zone. I'd honestly suggest playing on the level above rookie (Pro? Allstar? I can't remember what the next one is...). A couple of key sliders that can help keep the difficulty around where you are, but also give you more desirable results are:

-Pitcher strike frequency
-Pitch speed
-Solid contact

There are some great slider sets in the "Sliders" forum here, and it'd be worth going through somebody like armor & swords, or TNK's sliders and asking the questions there.

Hope this helps!

If the OS search feature worked, I would say just search for an existing MLBTS 20 RTTS thread. But since search has been disabled for now, I think it is okay to just start a new thread if you cannot easily find one. So to answer your first question, you just created one.

Edited to add: using the beginner hitting level where the pitchers throw meatballs maybe good for helping you with your timing. But I would recommend getting off of this level as soon as you can. You really need the pitchers to be throwing pitches out of the strike zone so that you can learn the sight pictures of the ball once it leaves the pitchers hand to know whether or not you should be swinging or taking the pitch. It's not easy, it took me countless plate appearances for me to recognize low and high pitches. It took me countless plate appearances for me to learn the sight picture of a fastball versus an off speed pitch. But the beauty of this game is that you can totally adjust the sliders to match your present skill levels. As an example if you are consistently behind on fastballs, then just go into your slider settings and lower the fastball pitch speed and if you do this, you should probably also lower the off speed pitch speed because it is important over time to be able to recognize the sight picture of fastballs versus off speed pitches. With all that said, I still struggle with sliders. A well thrown slider has the the initial sight picture of a fastball, so I swing and as I swing the ball breaks and I look like a fool. LOL

PS: while I am not quite as old as you, I am in my mid to late 50s and my eyes as well as my reactions are not as good as a young persons would be. So if memory serves me correct, I believe I have my fastball speed set to 7 versus 10 as the hardcore hitters claim to use and I think my off speed pitch speed is set to 5. But only going on memory here. Good luck, hitting in this game is not easy, but the sooner you can get pitchers to throw the ball outside of the strike zone the more you will learn to appreciate how fun hitting can be. And remember in baseball you can fail 7 out of every 10 plate appearances and still be considered a rock star hitter.

Thanks for your reply, I made the changes you suggested and although it took me a while to get used to it I am enjoying the game a lot more. I'm sure there will be more changes to come.
Thanks again
