    Division tie breaker

In my Franchise Milwaukee and San Diego clinched Wild card spots. Philadelphia and Washington tied for NL East, but Washington had a better H2H record. These teams played a one game playoff for division championship. I always thought H2H record was the tie breaker....

Not sure what other examples there are, but this one I remember. In 2007 the Rockies and Padres finished the regular season tied for 2nd place in the NL West with identical 89-73 records and then proceeded to play each other one more time (Rockies won) to determine who would be the Wild Card team.

I believe that MLB has never used a tiebreaker, and if two teams have the same record at the top of the standings when the season ends, they play a one-game playoff. I'm pretty sure that's the case no matter what the record between the two during the regular season was, even if in theory one swept all of the games.

In 2009, the Tigers and Twins finished with identical 86-76 records. They played a 1 game playoff to determine the division champion, which the Twins won in 12 innings.

In 2018, my Cubs lost the 1-game playoff, but still made the playoffs as the Wildcard and then lost that 1-game matchup too. Very unsatisfying way to end the year after winning 95 games in the regular season to tie for the best record in the NL.
