Any of the following if the lockout ends:

    Ronald Acuna Jr.
    Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
    Juan Soto
    Trea Turner
    Jacob DeGrom
    Shohei Ohtani

Or Tatis Jr. again, they did go back-to-back once with Mauer.

Either way, there are some solid choices.

If anything, cover athletes only help me distinguish what year any certain iteration of The Show was released.

Cover athletes mainly just get on the menu screens and so on. But I liked years back when NHL 04 allowed you to change the menu based on your fave team. At this point, that's what sports games should just do.

I do find it odd how we've never had a pitcher on the cover.

chalk up another great reason to have Ohtani on the cover
(as if there already isn't plenty lol)
the Studio could have 2 Shohei's on the cover:
one Shohei pitching to one Shohei batting

I think Ohtani makes the most sense, to capitalize on his wild season.

But beyond that, Luis Robert or Vlad Jr would be two other great options that would mirror the Tatis Jr choice of a young exciting superstar on an emerging contending team.

The most animated and best hitter in the game of course.

Put the Coach on the cover.

I’m willing to bet he’d come cheaper than any of the top stars, and isn’t he universally loved?

speaking of which, I wonder if he'll be back this year. maybe they could expand his role and replace Plesac in the booth with Coach.

                    This is the correct answer

But Paul Keys would be an acceptable alternative.
