I think it has to do with the scanning process. I don't know that you can edit the hair of a scan without messing something up. They probably suggested him cutting it so they could do another scan without the hair.

Why didn't they just have Guida put it in a bun or something like most long haired athletes do when they aren't competing instead of paying him to cut it (which is pretty funny)
