Re: fedor vs mir who wins?
Fedor would win easily. Mir might have slightly better jiu-jitsu, but Fedor is just so much better at everything else.
The better question in my opinion would be Fedor vs. Brock. Lesnar's just got such tremendous athleticism and wrestling, I think he could beat Fedor by getting Fedor down and grinding him out. I'm not saying Brock would be the favorite, but he'd have a chance.
Mir, though, really wouldn't have much of a chance. -
Re: fedor vs mir who wins?
Whoever fights better and has a better plan would win.
That's why they fight - because anything can happen.
To say Fedor would easily beat Mir is just stupid because Mir is a top level fighter and you've got no idea what he could do to Fedor.Comment

Re: fedor vs mir who wins?
Never said auto loss. At all.
He has a chance. Based on what i heard Mir say about him, Mir wont domintate him. Might even be a little scared like GSP was vs Hughes the first time. That being said out of ten fights, i take fedor 8 of 10. While i never said i think fedor would destroy him, i believe he would win.
Just keep in mind im saying fedor is the better fighter, not that mir cant win. Big difference.
And for the record, when i posted, yours wasnt there, i was talking to the op. It looked like i was talking to you but i wasnt.Comment

2) I still think Mir has little chance and that Fedor would win easily. What could Mir do to Fedor that Big Nog couldn't do in his prime?Comment

Re: fedor vs mir who wins?
Truth.
I would think that Fedor would win by decision. Mir has great BJJ, improved striking and looks better than he's ever been, but I am still a bit skeptical of him as his only quality win since his comeback was over Big Nog.Comment

Re: fedor vs mir who wins?
As for bringing up Big Nog, that's not MMA math. In fact, it's pretty much the opposite. If I wanted to use MMA math, I'd say something like "Since Fedor couldn't finish Big Nog and Mir finished Big Nog, that means Mir and Fedor are at least equal."
But I didn't say that.
I brought up Big Nog because Mir is pretty much a poor man's version of what Big Nog was in his prime. The two have pretty much identical skill sets, except that Big Nog's skill set was undeniably better than Mir's when Big Nog was in his prime.
So if Fedor was able to handle Big Nog's skill set when Big Nog was in his prime, what could Mir possibly do with a lesser version of that same exact skill set?Comment

As for Nog, he fought him 4 and 1/2 years ago. That's a long long time ago, and I certainly wouldn't base how he'd do against another fighter who's had 4 years of training and maturing with what he's done 4 1/2 years ago.
4 1/2 years is a hell of alot of time, and what Fedor and Nog did back then means NOTHING when it would come to a Fedor/Mir fight.
Mir isn't Nog - Mir now isn't Nog 4 1/2 years ago. Nog 4 1/2 years ago isn't Mir now... The fighters are not the same fighters. Just because they use the same techniques doesn't make them the same - it makes them similar; when it comes down to how they fight, how they think, how they react - they're nothing alike. They're two entirely different people.
What Fedor did 4 1/2 years ago means absolutely nothing.
What matters is here and now. Fedor is a great fighter, Mir is a great fighter. Both are very powerful, both have top level skill sets...
You have no idea who would win - and I'll repeat this -> to say Mir wouldn't stand a chance is stupid - because he certainly does stand a chance. Fedor isn't some miraculous, undefeatable god like so many people seem to think he is. He can get caught with a huge punch, or worn down and locked up just like any other fighter can. The different is, no one has managed to finish him yet... But that means nothing - because every single fight is different.Last edited by MC Fatigue; 06-16-2009, 02:27 PM.Comment

I mean, come on, I'm not reinventing the wheel here. When you look at fights, you look at the fighters' skill sets. You judge their strengths and weaknesses, and you use your judgement on how those strengths and weaknesses will affect the fight. Sometimes surprises happen, it's the nature of the beast, but more often than not things play out as can reasonably be expected.
For example, in the Mir/Lesnar fight, there was absolutely no surprises in that fight. When Brock overwhelmed Mir with his wrestling, that was expected. When Mir caught Brock in a submission, that too was expected. It was very easy to judge how that fight would go based on the fighters' skill sets.
It's pretty easy to judge Mir/Fedor, also. Mir is a decent boxer with great submissions. He's like a less skilled version of Big Nog from five years ago, but with worse cardio. There's nothing controversial about saying that.
So how would Fedor handle a skill set like that? Well, he handled Big Nog just fine. So why would Mir be able to do anything different? What could Mir do that Big Nog couldn't?
That's not MMA math. That's looking at fighters in the most logical way possible to come up with the most reasonable outcome. Mir's skills just don't match up well with Fedor because Fedor isn't really susceptible to the one thing that Mir can do well, submission.
You can ignore history if you want.Comment

Anyway man, I'm taking off, so we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.
I think we can both agree, though, that we'd love to see the fight happen.Comment

Re: fedor vs mir who wins?
Hell, Fedor's strength is his ground game, he's won more fights by sub than by KO. He's got much better standup than Mir and superior wrestling. If Mir's strategy is to get it to the ground, he's gonna actually have to get Fedor down first. Plus, as good as Mir is on the ground, Fedor is just about his equal. I'm not saying Mir doesn't have a chance, but there is no aspect of Mir's game that is clearly better than Fedor's and there are definitely parts of his game that are weaker than Fedor'sComment
