But they can just as easily do that with the winner of the Carwin/Velasquez fight, with the added bonus of some casual UFC fans even knowing who Lesnar's challenger is in that case.

Plus, both Carwin and Velasquez would be able to go on American TV to promote the fight, they're both much more charismatic than Fedor, Carwin's already got a little thing brewing with Lesnar, and Velasquez would be huge in helping the UFC tapping the hispanic market.

The only angle they'd really miss out on is the US/Russia thing, but not only is that pretty old, it probably wouldn't work too well with the soft-spoken, dough-y Fedor. Ivan Drago he is not.

Fedor has a belt. Then again if they didn't take it away from him before he goes to the UFC Dana would throw it in the trash during the PPV.

So what happens now? Fedor owes Affliction one more fight and I doubt Attencio wants to just give Fedor to the UFC without some kind of payment.

Later on Friday, Affliction opted to get out of the promoting business and, in a joint statement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, announced it would become a sponsor of the UFC. The fate of the fighters under contract with Affliction is not known yet.
Haven't seen this anywhere else than this Yahoo Sports article, but it appears Affliction may be done for good. Could Strikeforce or someone else buy the contracts instead of UFC, who knows.

Too funny, that goes to show you what I thought of that WAMMA belt, it never even came to mind when I typed that. I was thinking more of unification than anything else though. For the record I don't think Fedor would have to fight anybody before getting a title shot regardless of the WAMMA belt. His record and history speaks for itself.

That is great news. It will be good to see Affliction duds back in the UFC and I'm thinking we will see Lesnar/Fedor by the end of the year.
