DREAM in trouble?

Quote:
It turns out that is not the case at all, as we spoke with FEG USA's Mike Kogan this afternoon and it turns out that DREAM.16 is the last DREAM event for a while. The next MMA event you can expect from FEG is Dynamite!! 2010, which is set to go on as scheduled. As for what happens from there, there is no word yet and will most likely rely on television ratings from DREAM.16 and Dynamite!! as well as how the arrangement with PUJI works out.

Sounds like FEG is having a lot of troubles because they don't know when they are scheduling their K-1 shows either. Also add to the fact that a lot of fighters won't fight for DREAM anymore because they haven't been getting paid. Doesn't sound good if their next card is their last one for a while.

MMA in Japan isn't as great as it used to be, but its still nice to get free cards once in a while with Schiavello announcing and some Minowaman fights. TV ratings for Sengoku are also pretty poor, but at least they seem to be going in the right direction by developing younger fighters while DREAM is just relying on a lot of aging superstars.

Re: DREAM in trouble?

Well FEG partnered up with some Chinese investment bank for a ton of money, but it won't do anything for them until early 2011. Sponsors and good TV deals are still hard to get, with the bad economy and how Pride collapsed.

I have enjoyed Dream's events, and like how they do co-promotion crossover stuff with companies like Strikeforce and Sengoku, but I have to admit that Sengoku probably has the better long term plan. They're growing young fighters and apparently planning things out for a more fiscally responsible growth. Dream wanted to remind people of Pride, only without the best fighters in the world.
