Daniel Cormier already took his place and they still need a champion.

Re: Alistair Overeem Released By Strikeforce!

Well, this is what everyone knew the UFC would do with Strikeforce. They would have gutted it on day one if there weren't any contracts with Showtime in place. They said they'd respect all contracts in place, yet take offense with guys being allowed to fight in other promotions.

They took Diaz, cut Overeem, and will cut Hendo if he loses. Who cares that all these guys were holding belts. Supposedly Kharitonov is on the block as well. Strikeforce was a horribly managed company, and everyone laughed at the idea of them ever being able to pull off the GP as announced, but the UFC is tanking them on purpose now.

Re: Alistair Overeem Released By Strikeforce!

Here's the "problem" that Overeem did.

Overeem rejects a fight against Big Foot citing he needs time to heal. Alright, that's fine and it happens.

However, what he does next pisses off Dana and Zuffa: he is scheduled to fight in October overseas now. What happened to the injuries????

Don't play games with the Zuffa brass. He could try and strong arm SF and Coker, but he ain't strong arming Dana.

yeah, overeem is mostly to blame in this situation. i dont care if its in your contract, you dont pull out of a fight, and then schedule one with a different promotion afterward, thats a good way to piss off your boss.

IDK, not saying the injury thing wasn't BS, but the fact is that was a fast turnaround. October was a logical choice for the next bout. I think he could have recovered by then, but once again IDK

Silva has been off since February, while Overeem just fought Werdum in the middle of June. It's not absurd to push his next GP fight back to October if he needed it for legit injuries and time for a proper camp, it's been delayed all to hell anyways. Cutting the HW champ and one of their top fighters because of a one month difference is insane.

I think it's just an excuse by Zuffa to continue gutting Strikeforce and dumping the kind of contracts they don't like. They just want no part of what arguably brought down every other major organization, which was paying big money to marketable fighters and not even getting exclusive contracts. Groups like M1 and Golden Glory also strong arm after every fight and demand co-promotion money.

The UFC will still want Overeem if he wants in, just under their terms. The alternative is to keep fighting nobodies in Russia/Japan and not being paid for winning K1 GP's.

but you dont take a fight with different org immediately after backing out of the inital fight, especially when thats a busy month for your employer. even if you have a non exclusive deal, what overeeem did is just bad business plain and simple, he should have rescheduled a fight under zuffa first.

They can't just "push" back the fight between Big Foot and Overeem. It was scheduled to be in September thanks to Showtime and they had to fulfill that obligation.

And yes, you're right that groups like M1 and Golden Glory try and strong arm other organizations. However, we're talking about the UFC here: these guys don't play on other team's courts. They will not do so and if you try and mess with them, they have no problem cutting off ties.
