Much has been made about the winner of Saturday’s UFC on Fox 3 main event between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller getting a shot at the UFC lightweight championship… but that’s only partially correct.

“If Diaz wins, he gets a title shot; if Miller wins, he is probably still a fight or two away,” said UFC president Dana White on Wednesday, who likened the fight to the situation that Rashad Evans and Phil Davis were in at UFC on Fox 2 in January.
Let's get it done, Nate. I think that would be an awesome matchup. I'm a big fan of Diaz, Pettis and Bendo, so any combination of them fighting is fine by me.

Come on Dana. Jim Miller is not two fights away with a win over Nate.

Yep. He's one and it should be Pettis.

Could you imagine if Jim Miller did end up actually fighting for the title?

He would have had a seven fight UFC win streak, beaten a rising Oliveria, a relatively prime Guillard, a prime Nate Diaz, a pretty much prime Pettis...

What an accomplishment to simply get a title shot

Lol

And if Miller wouldn't have taken that beat down for Ben Henderson he would have already had his shot. Since he lost like that he needs another W or two to deserve a title shot. If wasnt for Pettis maybe I could justify Miller getting a shot after beating Nate. However, since Pettis has a fairly similar resume and a win over Ben, then I'm all for the two of them duking it out in a #1 contenders fight.

When you say Miller needs a W or two, you're including the Nate Diaz fight right.

Coming off the loss to Bendo, with wins over Guillard and Diaz, Miller should only have to beat one more guy to get a title shot.

Should probably be Pettis

My bad, I should have said one more win after Nate.

Assuming that Benson takes care of Frankie again and Miller beats Nate, then I couldn't give the nod to Pettis or Miller without one of them having another solid win. Their resumes are just that close (IMO). Therefore, naturally they should fight against each other. Another wild card is Maynard. If he gets impressively defeats Guida, then his resume stacks up well against the other two also. Maybe the three of them should face off in a triple threat match. In all seriousness, though I'd slate Maynard behind the other two since he was KTFO.

If Nate wins, then give the title shot to him. I'm not sure what you do with Pettis from there, because I imagine that he wouldn't want to remain inactive for so long (while waiting on a title shot or Maynard). However, as Condit has showed, a title shot is worth waiting for.

#1 Contender fight sounds good.
Who do they give the title shot in the meantime to then?
