Jones v. Silva?

Remember all that talk about how Jones said a fight against Silva would never happen. Remember how Silva talked about he had too much respect to fight Jones. Remember how Dana said he would make that fight. Well check out what Jones said this wknd:

"I’m happy where I’m at, but If Anderson moves up to light heavyweight and challenges me for my belt, that’s a different scenario,"

This is the first crack in the ice. Same **** that happened with Evans. Jones is opening the door and I'm interested to see how Silva reacts.

Re: Jones v. Silva?

I've said all along that Silva-Jones would happen before GSP-Silva. GSP is too concerned with the weight difference (which I understand), and Silva profiles as a natural LHW, so he wouldn't be giving up much size compared to Jones.

What an interesting fight that would be, although the first 3-4 minutes could be extremely boring with both girls circling each other. If Silva could avoid the takedown attempts by Jones, he would win, but if the fight hits the canvas, Jones has the edge.

I would LOVE to see this fight. If Anderson beats Jones there is absolutely no argument for Fedor > Anderson is P4P goat arguments. This fight would be amazing on the July 4th card, providing that Jones gets by Sonnen without injuries.

Re: Jones v. Silva?

GSP is too concerned with the weight difference just like Anderson is too concerned about the weight difference to fight at 205. It won't happen IMO. GSP/Anderson is a lot more possible because GSP has shown more interest in it. Anderson has fought at 205, sure, but fought guys that had no business being in the ring with him.

Looking at things now, I don't think either superfight happens.

Re: Jones v. Silva?

Anderson signed a 10 fight deal. He has to fight Jones man. He just has to.

Now, according to UFC president Dana White, those terms have been reached and it's a big deal.

White confirmed that Anderson Silva will sign a new 10-fight deal with the UFC that will take him up until the day he likely decides to retire, closing the book on one of the most storied careers in all of fighting.

“Ten. He signed a 10-fight deal. I don’t think we’ve ever done a 10-fight deal. Maybe we did one with Forrest once, I don’t remember, but Anderson said, ‘I want a 10-fight deal, not an eight-fight deal.’ I’ll give him a 100-fight deal if he wants one,” White said on Saturday night.

Re: Jones v. Silva?

Dana said he is expecting to hold the UFC 20th anniversary card in NY in Nov 2013 if MMA is legalized this year in NY. He says he has a date with MSG and a main event....could it be Jones v. Silva?

Why? He'll do what he has always done and select opponents that he can beat. Then if someone deserves a fight and might have a chance at beating him, he will hold out until the UFC throws money at him.

10 fights is a lot of fights for Silva. He is already getting old and if he continues only fighting 2 times a year, he is looking at 5 years. He won't want to fight Jones any time soon and risk losing his record.

Watch Jones move up to HW and then Silva will say he would fight him but he would have to come back down.
