Exactly. Jones punches weren't staged at all. Cormier expected jones to get held back.

Re: UFC 178 - Jones v. Cormier, McGregor v. Poirier - September 27

You guys really think it was fake? DC gets fired up, remember he shoved Pat too. There is deep seeded stuff here back when DC first came to the UFC, like literally the week his first UFC fight was announced, I saw him interviewed and they were talking about this beef with Jon Jones. It seemed random to me since they were different weight classes. I forget the exact details but I seem to recall something about Jon brushing DC off, calling him a nobody, and telling people they shouldn't do business with him or something like that.

Plus, this guy has a knee issue and now he's willing to take a dive off a stage like that? That was crazy. If it was staged and the stage dive was an accident wouldn't they have been a little deterred by what just happened instead of still going full on at each other?

Also isn't the commission really strict about this kind of stuff? I'm not saying it's not possible, but this card already seems to sell itself, why stage this?

I've watched the video a dozen times and can't tell exactly what happens. DC is being pushed away but somehow is turned and ends up on the bottom? I also can't tell if anything solid landed for either guy

Edit:

By saying the shove was staged, that implies that Jon knew about it right? I mean, doesn't staged mean the whole thing is fake? That doesn't make sense. If he knew why would he go ballistic? I think it was all natural. Jones went face to face, DC shoved, Jones went to take a swing back, it escalated

Edit 2:

Lol, I just watched the video DJ posted and they talk about the beef first hand. Wasted my time typing that out on my ipad

I don't mean the shove was staged or that jones was in on it. Just that Cormier expected it to go the way most press conference brawls go. One guy pushes the other and then everyone gets held back.

Staged or not they really don't like each other. I don't think the beef is fake.

This is awesome.

I've never seen DC this pointed, I think it's really weird to see him treat Jones with such disrespect.

Jon Jones is an idiot. He tweeted out 'where's your takedown defense' when he's clearly the one who got taken down. I hope Cormier shuts his *** up. This will be one hell of a fight, that's for sure.

What, if anything, do you guys think comes from this?

While I don't see then UFC doing anything that would alter the main event of the biggest card since UFC 100 (IMO), it seems like this could have been a very bad situation. Imagine a kid had walked behind there and been crushed, imagine any one of the people who went down with them or were in that area had been hurt. The casino could be used, the fighters could be used, the UFC could be sued. All in all, regardless of possible litigation, it's definitely great that no one was hurt.

Does the UFC do anything? The commission? A fine?

They aren't canceling the fight or suspending anyone. It will be a fine and it will be a light one. Around 10k or so.
