UFC 181: Hendricks v. Lawler 2 & Pettis v. Melendez - Dec. 6

The Weidman fight was announced weeks ago but Pettis just announced the fight date on twitter.

No way Shelftime makes it to this card on one piece. Guy is a ton of fun to watch but never fights.

Damn, for about 10 seconds I was trying to figure out who Shelftime was

And for the record, Pettis could have been fighting months sooner if not for the damn TUF show. That needs to go man. Nobody cares about that **** anymore and it's logjamming divisions.

Re: UFC 181: Weidman v. Belfort & Pettis v. Melendez - Dec. 6

Though now that Pettis is champion, the narrative of his inactivity has shifted. Before, when Pettis was just another exciting contender in the UFC's loaded lightweight division, a 16-month absence could be worked around. Now, his idleness affects every 155-pound fighter under UFC contract, and more than a few restless contenders have already begun grumbling about Pettis holding up the division.

"I don't think these guys are educated whatsoever," Pettis said in response. "The TUF gig is something I didn't choose to happen. The UFC chose that. I'm not going to say no to an opportunity like that. That signs me up for three months filming for that, so that's why the fight got pushed back all the way. I could be ready to fight by August, at the latest. From now to August, if I started a training camp, I could be ready to go.

I agree, guys like Frankie Edgar need to be fighting not on hold for 9 months extra because of the show. Dana always talks about the window being small in the UFC, but then has no problem holding up careers and divisions to try and get TUF ratings

I care about this season of TUF because it's going to crown a new champion. Also Pettis's involvement in TUF is actually Gilbert's fault. Gilbert's contract with bellator promised him a spot on their TUF like show. So when the UFC matched it they had to put him on TUF.

They get paid pretty well for TUF. There is a reason these fighter agree to be on the show. The UFC doesn't force fighters to do TUF.

It's one thing for them to crown a champ and be an interesting show in that capacity, but to have the champ and the #1 contender be held hostage by it is what I have an issue with.

I wish they weren't involved at all
