This has nothing to do with an exclusive license aside from when 2K's deal canned MVP way back when and has long since expired. The fact is that official sports licenses cost a lot, game development costs a lot (esp. when you have to build a game from scratch after missing several gens), and MLB isn't a sport that sells internationally like FIFA (nor any baseball game selling as well domestically as Madden and NBA 2K). The math bears out that it just doesn't make sense financially for EA to jump back into it; as they learned with trying to revive Live vs. NBA 2K, game development is hard and expensive enough without facing a competitor with a complete stranglehold on the competition.
