Taking budget baller to another level

So I decided to start RTTP on another account.

The goal is to see where I can get, without playing any challenges or domination. Only with MT from RTTP!!

I was lucky to start with Pierre Jackson and Vujacic and they carried me through the unrestricted seeds. My silver player was OJ Mayo (I was going for Kris Middelton).

I struggled during these seeds but I knew I'd go through them quickly (2 losses) so I started preparing to the 3 gold seeds.

My 1st pickup was DPOY Noah for 1400MT. People sleep on him and his passing ability and Dimer badge make him excellent on offence (and the 80 mid range)

My second pickup was Harrison Barnes for a cool 1800MT Carrol for 1400MT and Danny Green for 2000MT.

Once I was 1 game away from the 3 gold seed I sold Mcbuckets and Vujacic for a total of 3400MT and went shopping.

While preparing for the 3 gold seed I realised that I'd need strong defensive players, a PG that could really run the offence and someone to stop Westbrook.

I managed to pickup DPOY Michael Cooper for 2000 MT and Rubio for 1000MT.

I swept the 7th seed with Rubio, Cooper, Danny Green, Carrol and Noah. I was lucky enough not to get and opponent that exploited Carrol, because I didn't had anyone else

Currently on the 6th seed and just quick sold 2 bronze players and picked up TBT Kirilenko for 2800MT (seriously how do people sleep on him?).

So Demare to the bench and AK47 to the starting lineup.

Currently with 100MT and trying to sell the shoes from the reward packs, from which I also got Lavine (which isn't selling).

My bench is currently Pierre Jackson, Barnes, Carrol, Lauvergne and Dieng (reward pack).

I feel that I'm pretty much set, but should try to work on having a better bench.

After 2 games, I managed to win both with some luck, as when my bench came on (before Kirilenko), my opponent would usually go on a run.

So, the challenge now is to work on bench and prepare to the eventuality of getting to the unrestricted seeds.

Given that it will be hard to get more than 4000MT for each player, what would you guys recommend? I'm not good at going to the basket and like to move the ball around.

    Thanks

good job so far. so no sniping/flipping? just strictly RTTP MT? if so....I would quick sell Dieng and get silver Alonzo. he has Defensive Anchor, plus 15 badges compared to Dieng. Better defender, just not as athletic. You can get I'm for around 1200mt most of the time.

likewise with silver Gary Payton. has 23 badges and can defend.

if you get up the MT, you can catch DR Wes Matthews for 2500mt or less and he can be one of your main scorers and 3pt shooters....and he can defend.

silver Rondo would be a great interchangeable piece with Rubio.

silver Laimbeer for pick-n-pop and post defense.

Pat Beverley, Tony Allen, and Dennis Scott are nice pieces as well.

One thing I would do if you haven't is get your card count up to 250 to get the 20k MT bonus. Cheap cards like logos run for 250, play books, coaches and other cheap cards will help.

Also think about using the app on your phone to get free VC daily.

Keep scouring those auctions too. You can find some great deals if you keep digging.

Watch the teams you face to see who they use for ideas on who might make good players for your team as well.

Once you find guys you like upgrade their badges. Start with the 250 badges and move up as you can afford it.

      Nice job good luck!

DR Pat Beverley is nice too! Great defence and can shoot the 3 ball very well. Personally I would take Giannis over Tony Allen though. Tony Allen does have the defensive anchor badge though I think.

yeah, Allen has Anchor and will shut down 1-3. I didn't say DR Pat Beverley because I didn't know if he was out of price range for him. I have both but now have DR in my lineup a lot because he is elite defender with 88 std 3. I forced +9 speed shoe on him too so he is beastly.

Never thought to give him speed shoes! I will try this when I get home. Tony Allen on offence is too suspect for me. The positions he plays on the floor are usually scoring options for me. But as a dedicated one dimensional role player, he's perfect!

Yep, no snipping. I want to see how much the game actually allows me to go by just playing online.

Good call with Rondo and Alonzo. Will definitely put them on the shopping list.

After that, will go for Golds.

Thinking about Larry Johnson because of the post game and being able to shoot it as well. Is he good in game?

Yeah, Tony inability to shoot is a deal breaker for me. Already have weak shooting PGs. Giannis is a good call if I manage to get the MT. He can hold is own against any gold probably.

Have no chance of getting badges and more cards. I'm sticking only with the cards in the team, and see where I can get.

Thanks for the advice. Definitely analysing each game. It's been so much fun, because I spend the time carefully considering each purchase and how it affects my team.

Btw, really enjoy your videos man! Congrats.

LJ is terrible, get Derrick Colleman if you want uber cheap 4/5 that can do it all, costs like 1k mt last time I checked. Also if you can snipe a Nate Archibald for 2k, that card makes people pause in disbelief. There are tons of TBT cards that you can get extremely cheap on thursdays, some of those are super good both silver and gold. It's pretty easy to build a great squad at this point, even if you don't flip or buy vc.

Kendall Gill was another favourite of mine in the restricted seeds! He can shoot the mid range shot very well. Has a 90 dunk rating and layup ratings in the 80s. Decent athlete with a good vertical and solid strength for SG/SF type. Not the fastest of guys but get a lot of fast break points for me. 85 off consistency, 85 shot iq. He's kind of a jack of all trades type player. Does a lot of good things on the court but isn't spectacular at anything.

Give him a try if you have the chance!

This is a really cool idea, I would love to hear more progress updates as you tweak your team and get further into RTTP.

One thing you could do, not sure if it is allowed in your plan, is to do connections in mycareer. There are a bunch of good cards you can get from that, enough to build yourself a solid gold team. Also, you could sell those cards if you don't like them and have 20k+ mt from them to buy what you like. As mentioned above here, a lot of the silver and gold tbt cards are excellent and go for 1-2k in AH.

Re: Taking budget baller to another level

First of all, thank you so much for your suggestions. I looked into all of them, went with some, and took different directions in others.

                          Quick update:

Two more games played. Won both. The first was against a skilled opponent, and it was just one of those games were the ball bounced my way. The second one, he quit after the first quarter, not because of my skill... He probably rushed to the toilet or something.

                          Lineup update:

So I sold my backup PG (Pierre Jackson) for 3400MT to upgrade a few players. I also sold a bronze shoe for 350MT and got around 1000MT for the both matches.

And while writing this sold Harrison Barnes for 3000MT. Not sure about this move yet. I like Barnes, but have 4 guys that can play the 3, so I thought it was the right move. We'll see...

I picked up Larry Johnson for 2500MT. He is really versatile and can do a bit of everything.

I picked up Alonzo Mourning for 1200MT, because of the defensive anchor, post game and mid range (thanks for the recommendation)

And lastly I picked up Rondo for 1300MT because of the floor general badge and being a great defender. His cold spots throughout the entire floor scare me a bit.

Also, after selling Barnes and while trolling around the AH for a decent backup PF is went with the hype and bought Porzingis for 1200MT. No really, thinking about Porzingis to play against someone that has LMA or Dirk. His size should be enough to take care of that and he is also an asset on offence.

                          Thoughts?

About your suggestion I didn't pick

Derrick Coleman - his silver card defence is just not there, the gold would be interesting, but already have 3 golds.

Kendall Gill - same reason, defence is not there. I need guys that can slow down RTOY Jordan, Kyrie, Westbrook, and so on.

How about silver John Starks for defense at the SG position? Can also shoot the 3-ball really well. I also recommend TBT silver Bledsoe. Really great on defense with some nice badges and can run in transition like hell.

you did a good job. Larry Johnson will work better for you than Coleman. the only thing Coleman can do better is rebound. LJ can shoot the 3 really good, especially if you put shoe on him. LJ can play some small forward if he doesnt have to hold a guy that is really quick. He is a versatile 2-way player.

I mentioned TBT Bledsoe also...if you need someone to get to the rack or run pick and roll. His speed is elite. He has decent jumper and defense. I hope you can get DR Wes Matthews, he is up on xb1 right now for 4k and worth way more than that. he can be your 2nd option scorer and can defend. Until you can afford Matthews...if you want a budget scoring machine...Isaiah Rider is excellent or if you want an athletic shooter with a lil better defense, Rex Chapman.

Rondo was a good pick up, I dont shoot with him unless necessary...but he is not bad if wide open despite the cold spots.

Porzingas for 1200 was a no brainer.

Again, consider Payton for your 2nd or 3rd PG. Not fast like Pierre but he is very solid and goes for about 1200-1400mt.

Starks is also a great buy. He was one of my favorites last year, havent used him this year due to other options.

To slow down those guards as you mentioned, on a budget, get Avery Bradley for about 1200mt. 88 lat quickness. and Iggy, but he is usually around 2000-2500mt.
