    Difficulty scaling, how to know?

So I was feeling pretty badass at beating all these diamond/amy teams with my emerald/gold team. Then I lost to an even worse emerald/gold team (I think the guy was just better than me). So I dug out my best squad which is mostly ruby with a diamond and amy. I got matched against a mostly emerald/gold team. I won, but everything on my side felt sluggish and the other guy seemed to be racing around the court.

How do you know if the game is mismatching difficulty levels?

When I get matched against a team much lesser than mine, I'll send the user a PM to ask what tier. I hover in the ruby/amethyst leagues. More times than not, the reply is "emerald/sapphire".

What difficulties are assigned to each tier?

In the splash screen before the game, it'll show you the league, which is a way to indicate difficulty I think, not necessarily league one is in. I am in Sapphire but get games "in" Ruby.

You can also tell something from hiw your MT is multiplied after the game.

The splash screen is not accurate. I see players with gold in the splash screen, but they themselves indicate otherwise when I ask. It will show me in any league between emerald And amethyst, when I am not actually in that league.

And the post game screen is sometimes accurate.

The best indicator for YOUR own diff is the multiplier, as you mentioned. Mine has never been incorrect.

The problem lies with not knowing what the opponent's actual difficulty is. Like I mentioned before, I've asked guys what league they were in, and they have confirmed that cross-difficulty matches occur. I have been in ruby facing guys in emerald and sapphire.

            Bronze & Silver= Difficulty multiplier 1.00 = Pro

            Gold-Sapphire= Difficulty Multiplier 1.25 = All-Star

            Ruby-Pink Diamond = Difficulty multiplier 1.50= Superstar

Thanks for the feedback. Interesting stuff.

I am convinced there is almost no matchmaking based on talent despite what some people think. I have played through emerald multiple times, sometimes with my 95 ovr team and sometimes my 87 ovr team, and I get the same mix of green/gold teams and diamond/amy/ruby teams. What seems to be different is that the lesser teams seem supercharged.

If the game were matching on talent, I would be playing more squads a league above me. But instead it seems like I'm playing league below, and then they are getting a boost. This tells me that it has nothing to do with roster talent at all. Instead it just matches you to whoever is on with a decent ping, then gives the weaker team a boost.
