I just finished the 76ers last night. Had to play the final game (vs. All-Time 76ers on Superstar, 8 76ers required, Max 3 Gold) for something like 8 times. But I think if I knew what I know now, from the start, I probably could've beat it within 2 or 3 tries easily, if not the first.
For the final game, the main problems I encountered was Allen Iverson clutch scoring.
Allen Iverson may not score a billion points, but he seems to score whenever the 76ers need to score. I.e. 76ers down by 2 with 10 seconds left and he'll dance at top of arc, then pull a stepback 3 and drain it. He won't drop even 25 points, but he'll score at the worst times.
In the end, I just needed to put Current Silver Iguodala on him. I had been playing Iguodala at 3 because I felt like he was the only guy who could really handle Dr. J, but the CPU doesn't really go to Dr. J all that much. AI, on the other hand, brings up the ball and the offense flows through him. So I switched Iguodala onto AI. And Moments Silver Nwaba was fine on Dr. J.
This was my lineup:
The other advantage of Iguodala at PG was not only his D, but also the fact that he can overpower AI on offense by posting up and post-spinning. And even with 82 BC is a very effective P&R ballhandler.
Otherwise, I spammed P&R with Simmons all game long. 4-5 P&R with Chandler. Amethyst McGinnis absolutely could not deal with screens and defend Simmons's driving. And Simmons would often blow past Chamberlain, even though Wilt didn't have to respect the shot of either Simmons or Chandler. Lots of layups and dunks right behind Wilt unable to get back deep into the paint in time. I actually ran Simmons P&R out of called plays a lot, not just manual P&R: Fist 92 Down and Fist 5 Horns Down from Heat/Spurs playbook.
Bench squad was Mike James running P&R with Richaun Holmes or Pick & Fade with Thon Maker. And on the starting squad, I found Gold Redick to be an out-and-out sniper, shooting threes off called 3-point plays that gave him nice screens. Quick 15 Elbow was especially nice when Simmons was playing point, because that play has the initial ballhandler setting a downscreen for the shooter and Simmons is a big boy when setting a screen on a 2.
Having very capable Silvers is critical for these 3 Gold games on Superstar. Especially capable wing defenders who are not hopeless shooters. Iguodala is really excellent. Moments Silvers Nwaba and Shumpert are quite solid. Silver Moments Kuzma is a great Silver.
Mike James is a little dunking giant. If he gets decent runway, he will launch and dunk hard. Can stay in front of a guy on D, but will not be forcing misses on high-end slashers. Still...tremendous to have a Silver that one can manufacture strong bench points with.
And Thon Maker, of course, is a Silver god. We all know that.
