I've only played two games online this year. I don't have a PS Plus account (because I rarely play online), so I had to use a free two-day pass to play online. I've had good experiences so far. I ranked up to Junior Varsity after only two games. I always played with lower tiered teams in previous versions, so that the fact that I'm rewarded for doing so this year is nice.

My first game was against someone who literally was playing the game for the first time. I had to tell him over the mic how to do certain things because he didn't know the controls changed this year. I still beat him by like 15 or so. I had the Lakers; he had the Bucks.

My second game was against a cheeser. He had the Cavs and I had the Nuggets. He raged quit in the fourth quarter because I was hitting open jumpshots consistently and taking advantage of his low basketball IQ. He couldn't shoot, and I was successful in keeping him out of the paint unless he had an offensive rebound.

They've improved a great amount when it comes to online leagues. They've given the admins a lot of options that weren't there previously, that should've been there.

On ball defense is fine if you're using a good defender. I've held the likes of Derrick Rose and Wade to 33% shooting from people trying to brute force their way into the paint with Kyle Lowry

When I manage to get a game going, it plays great! Unfortunately a lot of the time I've had connection issues and only managed to complete a handful of games. Most of the games completed I didn't have too much input lag.

Defense is GREAT this year. I will point to one game where my defense ALMOST won it for me. As always when I play online, I don't cheese. I don't use bull**** tactics or just pick the Warriors/Cavs and drive down the hole every time - that was the other guy.

So, using SamPham's video is a guide, I actually went in and spent my 3min pause break setting my defensive settings. I set everything for a drive because I knew this guy was driving to the hole every time, and all I made sure that my Forwards were set to help.

I'm still not good at the game (haven't had a 2K in 4 years), but I gave him a run. It was close the entire time and back and forth. I think the most he ever got up was about 7pts (I got up by about 4 at most). At the end I made some bad passes that got intercepted and lost the game.

However, there were moments - especially in the 3rd - where my defense started turning things around. There were even times where Lebron drove, I forced him middle and voila! Help defence from JV & Patterson, with Carroll riding him all the way! He even lost the ball and got stolen in the paint! It was magical!!

My point is that defense is there if you use it - but you also have to be willing to take the time to fine tune your matchups.
