    NBA 2K16 Draft Class Guide & Formulas Project

    Draft Class Guide & Formulas Project

    After a year's absence, I returned to play the nba 2k. As some know I made some draft classes for NBA 2K13 and NBA 2K14. I have a very slow internet and i don't have to much time to do the draft classes now. So i want to help does that are doing it and maybe they can help me later.... I made some formulas based on the 2K formulas but this are for the draft classes and to me this can help giving more realistic attributes to the Prospects and improve the game experience. So let me show you some of my Formulas.

    Strength of each Type draft by Ratings

    Not every draft is equal, you can see the difference between a very strong draft like 2009 or 2003 and the infamous 2013 draft. So I divided the strength of them in three different categories…

    Strong Draft Class
    --->75-78 = Top 5 draft picks
    --->71-74 = Lottery Picks
    --->69-71 = Mid Late 1st Round Picks
    --->67-69 = 2nd Round Picks
    --->65-66 = Probable Undrafted

    Average Draft Class
    --->74-76 = Top 5 draft picks
    --->70-73 = Lottery Picks
    --->68-70 = Mid Late 1st Round Picks
    --->66-68 = 2nd Round Picks
    --->65-65 = Probable Undrafted

    Weak Draft Class
    --->73-75 = Top 5 draft picks
    --->70-72 = Lottery Picks
    --->67-70 = Mid Late 1st Round Picks
    --->66-67 = 2nd Round Picks
    --->64-65 = Probable Undrafted

        You got some nice work there man

        On some ratings you used per-game numbers, but maybe it's better to use per-40 numbers so players that don't get enough playing time would get a correct rating too (you could then remove points from players that have a small sample size).

              Nop i think that the per game stats are ok since i used the % stats too to avoid to overate and underrate the players.

              For Example from the last NCCA Season:

              Blocks (Average of Blocks % Rating and Block per game Rating)
              Block% from www.sports-reference.com/cbb
              --->7.0% = 90 Rating
              --->6.0% = 85 Rating
              --->5.0% = 80 Rating
              --->4.0% = 75 Rating
              --->3.5% = 70 Rating
              --->3.0% = 65 Rating
              --->2.5% = 60 Rating
              --->2.0% = 55 Rating
              --->1.5% = 50 Rating
              --->1.0% = 45 Rating
              --->0.5% = 40 Rating
              --->0.0% = 35 Rating

              Block per game
              --->4.5 - 5.0 = 90 rating
              --->3.9 - 4.4 = 85 rating
              --->3.3 - 3.8 = 80 rating
              --->2.7 - 3.2 = 75 rating
              --->2.1 - 2.6 = 70 rating
              --->1.5 - 2.0 = 65 rating
              --->0.9 - 1.4 = 60 rating
              --->0.6 - 0.8 = 55 rating
              --->0.3 - 0.5 = 50 rating
              --->0.0 - 0.2 = 40 rating

              Willie Cauley-Stein (25 min per Game) ---> (90 Block% Rating + 65 Block per game rating) / 2 = 77.5 = 78 Rating
              Karl-Anthony Towns (21 min per Game) ---> (90 Block% Rating + 70 Block per game rating) / 2 = 80 Rating
              Frank Kaminsky (33 min per Game) ---> (75 Block% Rating + 60 Block per game rating) / 2 = 67.5 = 68 Rating
              Amida Brimah (26 min per Game) ---> (90 Block% Rating + 80 Block per game rating) / 2 = 85 Rating
              Myles Turner (22 min per Game) ---> (90 Block% Rating + 80 Block per game rating) / 2 = 80 Rating

              If you use the per 40 min to do the rating you will have to many guys with a 90 block rating and as you know we should give a room to the players to grow. The Same is for the other ratings formulas that have % and per game stats.

              With you compare them with players that are in the league now coming from the NCAA:

              Anthony Davis (32 min per Game) ---> (90 Block% Rating + 90 Block per game rating) / 2 = 90 Rating (The only player that would have a 90 Rating before the Draft)
              Dallas Mavericks

                Tendency

                Shot
                Take the Player Field Goal Attempts per 40 minutes from http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb x 5
                Examples:
                ---> 18 FGA per 40 min x 5 = 85 Tendency
                ---> 15 FGA per 40 min x 5 = 75 Tendency

                Touches
                Take the Player Usage Percentage from http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb x 3
                Examples:
                ---> 25 Usage % x 3 = 75 Tendency
                ---> 30 Usage % x 3 = 90 Tendency

                Foul
                Take the Personal fouls per 40 minutes from http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb x 20
                Examples:
                ---> 2.8 PF per 40 min x 20 = 56 Tendency
                ---> 3.0 PF per 40 min x 20 = 60 Tendency

                  I REALLY like this idea man. Using both. Makes sense.

                  This should be done with steals/rebounding/assists as well right?

                    I also think that should be done with shot ratings.

                    For example, take 3PT shooting.

                    If you have 2 players that both shoot 40% over the span of a season, but one attempts 300 and the other attempts 20, those two shouldn't have the same rating.

                    Attempts should be taken into consideration when producing ratings.

                    I feel the same should be true for free throws as well
                    Concrete evidence/videos please

                        I like this, it's similar to how I gauge my draft class. What are your thoughts about potential?

                          Nice work man. Quick question. I noticed you have quite a hard cap on defensive consistency ratings.
                          I.e. for elite prospects they have a defensive consistency rating of 60-65, and average prospects have 40-45.

                          Can i ask what your reasoning is for why it's so low? Is it because official 2k rosters have low defensive consistency ratings? or is it because you believe defensive consistency is something that young players lack? Or is it because defensive consistency in 2k's MyLeague mode progresses faster than other categories?

                          Just looking to get a feel for the thinking there. Thanks
