I know I have been very very quiet in the threads but it is only because we are tireless working on the roster and draft classes while dealing with real life as well.
With that being said, I wanted to offer any of you guys that follow the league the opportunity to be a coach for one of the League teams. We are going to list a few teams that have coaching openings and what their situation is. All you have to do is let us know if you want to be the coach for that team on the file.
We are only going to be taking three coaches so if you want it so if you do, be sure to post your plans for the team, what type of scheme you would like to run and any other information you would like to post. Also, know that if you take on this role as the team coach, you will have the opportunity to participate in other league activities for that team such as free agency, trades and the draft. Below are the five teams that have coaching vacancies.
Dallas Mavericks
Last Year’s Record: 23 – 59
Roster:
What's the Deal With the Mavericks: The Mavericks are a team that I feel should be better than they are. Devon Richards is one of if not the best point guard in the league behind Whakil Blackshear. Paco Venus is a young guard that can put up points in bunches and Jamaree Huntingdon was one of the best rookies in the league last year and looks to have the potential to be a top five center in a few years. The issue here is that they A) overpaid for PF Akeem Gates and have to sit on that terrible contract for a few years and B) there is some worry that Richards and Huntingdon won't want to stay there when their contracts run out if they don't bring more talent in. I think this team is better than their record last year but they may just need a few puzzle pieces moved around.
Memphis Grizzlies
Last Year’s Record: 19 – 63
Roster:
What's the Deal With the Grizzlies: The Grizzlies are easily the most "sparkly" team on this list. On the surface, it's a dream team for you guys that love those "potential stars". Josiah Ingram is the old man here and the man that maintains order in that locker room. Outside of Ingram, the team has at least four very young future all stars in Solomon Myers, Ra'shawn Michaels, LaFerrell Eagle and this year's number 2 overall pick Cameron Register. The team also has additional young players with potential in SF Miko Niko and Toriano Robinson. So why did they finish with the worst record in the league? Well, some may say it's because they are young and need time to grow into the stars everyone thinks they will be. OR, maybe they just aren't that good. Who wants to take the job and find out?
Indiana Pacers
Last Year’s Record: 35 – 47
Roster:
What's the Deal With the Pacers: I'll be honest... I hate the Pacers and to be honest, they over achieved last year if you ask me. This is a job that should not be vacant because I think this was a 30 win team at best but their demanding owner isn't trying to hear that. The issue with the Pacers is that their vets aren't that good and they have no young players that show enough promise of turning the franchise around. Che King is good but he isn't a star. Avon Blackshear has the name but not the talent of the other Blackshear's in the family. What they do have is money for the future though. They currently have about 18 million to spend and in 2 years Darmani White's 19 million will be coming off the books. The Pacers will have the money to lure a big name guy in there alongside two top draft picks (if things go as bad as I think they will these next two years). If that's a situation that excites you.... sign up here.
Toronto Raptors
Last Year’s Record: 25 – 57
Roster:
What's the Deal With the Raptors: The Raptors have something that the rest of these teams on this list do not... a newly acquired player that will instantly make a difference. When the year started last year, the team was relying on a declining Jeff Hill. They now have former Nets Forward Glenn Braxton who made it clear that he wanted his own team. Braxton will join this year's number 7 pick Romello Cloud who dropped a little further than some thought before the draft. Between the two of these guys, I can assure you that Toronto should be better than they were last year but just how good can they be and what can you add to the squad to make them even better?
Phoenix Suns
Last Year’s Record: 32 – 50
Roster:
What's the Deal With the Suns: This team is probably closest to my heart on this list because I am a big fan of both James Sterling and Ernest Knight. Sterling was a top tier point guard at one point in his career and it is sad to see him declining due to age. Because of this, the Suns drafted with the 8th pick in the draft, PG Travion Branch. At the moment, Branch will not contribute a ton but I really think that he has a chance to be a top 10 point guard at worst and a top 3 PG at best. The team also has dynamic scorer Dontae Brown and Jerome Sims (who isn't the same player he used to be, but still a good player). This team is old but they have young talent on the team who may be ready to take over and take this team back in the right direction.
