Re: JB's 2k19 (PS4) Fictional Draft Classes

November Notes

Preseason #1 ranked Duke breezes through November going 7-0. Duke once again has a starting front court that consists 2 McDonalds All-Americans PF Malcolm Wilcox and center Trayce Hamilton, both of them are currently averaging a double-double after 7 games.

Last year’s National Championship team Texas Tech has gotten off to a rough start after losing their 2 best players to the NBA. They’re currently 4-3 and not ranked in the top 25. Sophomore center R.J. Andrews is currently leading the team in points and rebounds with 16.5 and 10.5.

This year’s most talked about and hyped freshman is the Texas Longhorns PF Kahlil Poythress. Poythress joins a deep Texas team that includes fellow All-American Alexander Jones Jr., and sophomore standout Brandon Royal. The team also has a pair of Junior SG’s that should contribute this year, Denzel Marion and Joe Madison. Poythress has looked pretty dominant so far and most scouts believe he’ll be the top pick in the draft this year. He’s currently averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds per game through November. Texas is 7-0.

#2 ranked Kansas has National Championship aspirations this year, and they’re led by Senior PF Xavien Wallace. Jr. SG Deion Beasley is poised for a breakout year and SF Jaden Sanders led the team in assists as a freshman last year and looks like he’s ready to make the leap into one of the leaders of the team.Kansas goes 7-0 during November.

The #6 ranked Bruins re-inserted SG Jayshaun Parks into the line-up and will run a more traditional offense this year instead of the 2-PG system from a year ago. Parks has been really good early on; he’s currently averaging 24.5 ppg. So. PG Donovan Lockett has taken over the starting PG full time now, and he’s also off to a quick start, averaging 14.5 points and 7.5 assists. They also added the #1 ranked SF out of high school Brenden Turner.

Some were surprised to see Arizona ranked #8 in that nation after losing Corey Appling to the NBA. They have a deep team led by two seniors; PG Jeremy Baxter and SF Tony McCray. They also added Alani Strawberry who was the 4th ranked SG coming out of highschool and 15 ranked player overall. They’re currently 6-1 through November.

West Virginia doesn’t have the most talented roster, but it looks like they have one of the most talented players in the nation. It’s still early, but, 6’7 PG Jalen Woodson looks like the real deal. Through the first month of the season Woodson is posting 18/6/7, and is shooting over 50%. The one knock that scouts have pointed out is his poor 3pt shooting.

After a bit of a disappointing end to last season, (2nd round exit in Tourney) Michigan State returns 4 starters from last year’s squad (SG Samuel Kurz; C Devin Long; PF Kendrick Palmer, and PG Matthew Reece) and adds a key piece to the starting lineup with Fr. SF Maxwell Bryant. They’re 7-0 through November.

After going to the National Championship game last year, Florida has gotten off to a less than ideal start. They’re 4-3 through November, and are still adjusting to life without Leroy Williams-King. Sophomore center Eli Meacham has replaced Huey Monroe as the starting center, and currently leads the team in points and rebounds. Fr. PG Justice Knight has been solid as well; he’s averaging 15 points and 5 assists per game.

Recruiting News: The biggest news is that USC received a commitment from the #1 ranked player in the nation, 6’8 SF Kenyon Markota, they also received a commit from #20 ranked Justin Kemp, a 6’3 PG from nearby Fairfax high school. The #2 recruit in the nation, PG Darnell Rackley has committed to Duke, and the #3 ranked player--SF Cassius Fowler has committed to Kentucky.

Re: JB's 2k19 (PS4) Fictional Draft Classes

December Notes:

International News: Marcel Uthoff, the 7’1 20 year old center has gained traction as the #1 player overseas and most scouts believe this year he will enter the draft. PF/C Jovan Krsitc is the #2 ranked player and it sounds like he’ll be staying at least one more year overseas.

Kentucky’s trio of freshman has showed flashes, but has been inconsistent so far this season. PG Kyree Summers is lightning quick and has been solid on defense so far. Trey Watkins is a slashing guard that has already thrown down some posterizing dunks this year. Center Wendell Thurmond is an athletic big who’s coming off his most impressive game of the year, when he dropped 22 points, hauled in 15 rebounds and blocked 6 shots. They’re currently 9-4 on the year.

Duke’s team continues to impress, they’re still undefeated (13-0) and ranked #1 in the nation. Fr. PF Malcolm Wilcox has been dominating the competition the last few weeks, and is coming off of back to back 20+ points and 10+ rebound games. Meanwhile, fellow freshman, center Trayce Hamilton has been a force in the paint with his shot blocking ability.

UNC was only able to grab one top 20 recruit, 20th ranked Rashawn Franklin, he’s currently the starting PF for the team and is averaging 8.5 points and 9 rebounds per game. Sr. SG Quentin Johnson currently leads the league in 3pt% (.481), and So. SF Everson Blackwell has taken the lead they hoped they would get from him. He’s averaging just over 16 points per game thru December.

Florida State lost SG Jaykwon Owens to FIU, but Fr. SG Avery Qualls has stepped right into the starting line-up and has played well so far. Jr Center Jace Moore currently leads the nation in block per game (3.4). So. PF Jarod Skiles is currently averaging a double-double with 11.4 ppg and 10.0 rpg.

Louisville’s Jr. PG Cordell Pointer is one of the nation’s leaders in assists (4th – 6.9), his improved playmaking ability has helped teammates like So. PF Treven Warren and So. Center Bruce Temple become better players on the offensive end of the court.

Gonzaga doesn’t have any household names and is a young team this year starting two freshmen (PG Triston Sellers and PF Greg Burgess) and two sophomores (SF Joe Bellamy and SG Carl Wittman). They continue to win games though, and are 11-2 through November and ranked 7th in the nation.

LSU Jr. PF Lamar Banks is having a breakout season; he’s currently 5th in the nation in rebounds. He’s also averaging 16.7 ppg and is the main reason for the team’s success thus far, they’re not ranked, but are trending upwards, and they’re 9-4 on the year right now.

Recruiting News: The #4 ranked recruit in the nation, SG A.J. Matthews has committed to UNC. The 5th ranked player SG Laron Quarus (Brother of Latrelle Quarus) has followed in his brothers footsteps and committed to Michigan. Duke received 2 more commits: 8th ranked Micah McKnight (6’10 PF) and 59th ranked Richard Plumlee (6’11 C).

Re: JB's 2k19 (PS4) Fictional Draft Classes

January Notes:

Kansas continues to roll; they’re 20-2 through January and are the #1 ranked team in the nation. So. SF Jaden Sanders has been great this year and mock drafts have him going in the top 10 right now. Sr. PF Xavien Wallace is also having a great year; he’s currently 3rd in rebounds (11.8) and is averaging 17.6 points per game.

Duke goes 6-3 in January and drops to #7 overall. Fr. PF Malcolm Wilcox continues his impressive freshman campaign; he’s 10th in the nation in scoring (19.7) and 7th in the nation in rebounds (10.6) and should be a top 3 pick in the upcoming draft. Fr. Center Trayce Hamilton is 2nd in the nation in blocks (3.0) and should be a lottery pick. Sr. SF Lucas Underwood has put together a solid season so far and has starting popping up on draft boards.

UCLA has stayed steady as the #6 ranked team in the nation. Junior SG Jayshaun Parks continues to have a great year statistically; through January he’s 3rd in scoring (24.8) and he’s improved his 3pt% which currently sits at .347. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him drafted in the top 10. The freshman forward tandem of SF Brendan Turner and PF Damari Reynolds has made it clear they’ll be declaring for the draft.

Wichita State has moved up to #4 in the nation after going 8-1 in January to improve to 20-2 on the season. Wichita State is led by Senior SF Zachary Nash who currently is 7th in scoring (21.6).

Texas remains at #5 in the top 25. This Texas team has a ton of talent this year, most notably the consensus #1 draft prospect PF Kahlil Poythress. In his last game an 87-72 victory over Kansas State, Poythress put up 32 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. He looks like a “can’t miss” prospect that NBA teams should be excited about adding to their roster.
