    1983-84 NBA Season (PS4) Work-in-Progress Thread

I've kicked off on two historic rosters: 1978-79 and 1983-84. While I've done a bit of work on both, I think I'm going to work to finish 83-84 first. I'll use this thread to make updates on progress, and also to ask for advice and opinions about specific players where my own research falls short.

If anybody reading this is good at CAPs, would love a collaborator - I'm passable, I guess, but mostly get guys that look sort of similar to the real-life guy rather than true likenesses.

    Re: 1983-84 NBA Season (PS4) Work-in-Progress Thread

I'm definitely not one of the star CAP-makers when it comes to faces but I was planning on putting together 84-85 rosters and most of those guys would overlap with your 83-84 rosters. So I'd be willing to divvy up some of the guys to make it easier on both of us.

Some players lend themselves better to CAPs depending on how similar they look to the preset faces...with other guys, all you can do is give it your best shot.

Started looking at the 84-85 rosters and what do you do with the extra teams? There would be 7 extra teams.

I usually make 7 teams full of 60/69 Gates players. This way they dont ruin your simulate 85 season.

And what about divisions? Do you put all of the real teams into 4 divisions and then have 2 divisions of dummy teams?

No, i try to keep the original divisions...this way the dummy teams dont hurt much

Right.....but there were only 4 original divisions. So it would be:

                  EASTERN CONFERENCE:
Atlantic: Boston, Philly, NJ, Washington, NY
Central: Milwaukee, Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Atlanta, Indiana
                  Southeast: 5 dummy teams

                  WESTERN CONFERENCE:
Southwest (Midwest): Denver, Houston, Dallas, Utah, San Antonio, KC
Pacific: LA Lakers, Portland, Phoenix, Seattle, LA Clippers, Golden State
                  Northwest: 5 dummy teams

That's 4 real divisions and 2 divisions of dummy teams. The only negatives to doing it this way are that you've have a dummy team winning 2 of the divisions and I'd have to add 3 exra dummy teams to get to the minimum 5 teams in each division.

Or did you mean you keep the teams in their current division alignments?

Yeah in the current...only way i know to avoid dummy winning divisions...

Ok, yeah....it's too bad we can't customize the number of divisions, have less teams in divisions, etc.

I wish we could do that. Then you could do real simnation MyLeagues with 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s NBA.

UPDATE: I'm about 20% of the way done, I think. Around three-quarters of the players themselves are created, and the actual ratings are done for three: the 76ers, Celtics, and Hawks. The Sixers and Hawks are both playing pretty well. For some reason the Celtics are sort of broken; in the test games I've been playing Kevin McHale won't shoot and nobody passes to Bird. Still working on that, and hoping to get through the Bucks later tonight or tomorrow.

Regarding the extra teams: I really don't know. The problem with turning them all into generic dummy teams is that I am trying to build this roster with long-term play in mind. But if the seven teams that didn't exist in real life are all really terrible, then the best guys in the 84 draft are all going to end up going to the dummy teams which isn't much fun. I'll jump off that bridge when I come to it, I guess.

Bumping to say: moving along really well. Originally I was targeting the end of the year but I’m now shooting for sooner, maybe even Thanksgiving.

Collecting ideas for what to do with the extra teams. Any opinions? College teams of 83-84 would be fun but would mess up the draft classes. Fictional teams are fine but kill immersion. Things like Euroleague teams, the Globetrotters, etc, could be fun but time consuming.

Would like be to hear what players would want.

Maybe just fill the teams with a some.free agents from that year or some players that retired the season before
