The Most Immersive Way To Enjoy NBA 2k23: TrueSim CPUvCPU Sliders + Edits

Before I say anything, I recorded some gameplay of a CPUvCPU game: Bucks-Lakers, Thursday (2/9) post-trade deadline matchup, using the ATD scenario:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1734733942

If that looked good to you, I'll continue (you can skip to the end for stats if you only care about that).

Back in the day, I used to be more active on the 2K slider/roster forums here, and released a roster (I believe for 2k15). I've been on and off with 2k, and I've kept a pulse on the changes the past few years - changes to tendencies, gameplay, badges etc.

As a Lakers fan, I decided to give 2k23 a go primarily because of the Eras mode with Kobe. I started by playing that, but found that I really wanted to jump back to present day with the trade deadline happening, and Westbrook finally being shipped out of town.

The Attention To Detail rosters are fantastic and very popular - hats off to those folks - so I decided to fire up My NBA with them. Tweaked the sliders I had been testing to mesh with today's NBA, but gameplay just didn't feel right.

Nobody was shooting the ball.

It was like every single player was pass-first, which led to the shot clock ticking down, slow posessions and bad shots.

There are a lot of tendencies in NBA 2k (too many), but only a few really matter. When I was making rosters, I learned that two sliders in particular were very important:
Contested Mid Range Shot
Contested 3 Point Shot

And sure enough, when I looked at the roster, those tendencies were extremely low for just about everyone.

So essentially what I did was look at the player type and assign 50 mid, 75 3pt for players who are good at shooting 3s i.e. 3 and D guys, 3PT specialists - anyone who had 3pt shooting fairly high in their skillset. Conversely, I assigned 75 mid and 50 3pt for players who prefer the mid-range shot.

There's a more complicated way to do this, but I wanted something quick, simple and effective, and I didn't want to screw with tendencies that affect sim stats.

If you watched the gameplay above, you'll also probably notice there were fouls, but there could be more. I am pondering raising the minimum draw foul attribute to about 70 or 75 before my games to get a few more, but you'll see that AD and Giannis got their FTAs.

The sliders I used are uploaded to 2K Share (PS5): TrueSim 2k23. Game speed is 65.

Latest sliders can also be found in this video: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1762769110

Let me know what you think!

UPDATE: I made a spreadsheet that has all the calculations for the ratings/tendenciy edits I make before games:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

Latest sliders: (4/29/23)

Download/make a copy and it should be good to go!

Fantastic observation and recommendation for Contested Mid and 3pt shots.

I just updated my season roster and I love the improved shooting from the CPU. They are so much more decisive taking shots. Many are contested, but getting away from the indecisive, pass too much, run the clock down offense is much better.

My approach to the tendency edits was like this -

Select the screen to edit all players. I first adjusted Contested Mid tendency to a low of 50 and high of 75. I adjusted Contested 3PT to a low of 35 and high of 75.

Then I sorted by Shoot Mid tendency and manually adjusted many of the top midrange shooters to have a higher Contested Mid tendency (in the 60-75 range). Then I sorted by overall rating and made a few more increases. I looked specifically for high rated players with the mid range scorer label (or whatever the exact wording is).

I did the same for 3pt shooters. Sort by the Shoot 3 tendency. Adjust the top highly rated 3pt shooters. Then sort by overall rating again and bump up the Contested 3pt tendency for top overall players with the 3pt label.

Love this change. More players willing to take contested shots. Much better offensive flow and decision making.

I like your sliders a lot. I made a couple different edits to my roster but question what shot timing do you use for your CPU vs CPU?

Any updates after the new patch?

I'm seeing a lot of blowouts

Hey Cy,

Edit...

I just tryed these for 1991 MJwizards set, only reversing two sliders...

Medium

And Three point Tendencies. For 1991 it's running extremely well!

I'm seeing paint play, driving to the lane, getting cut off and some making the play, thinking of dropping speed to about 57, other than that we might have an all in one Era slider set finnally.

Looking extremely well!

Bird hitting that fade away jumper!
