FYI: The "Lateral Quickness" slider seems to do nothing in 2K24

Not sure if this was brought about by one of the updates/patches in recent weeks/months (as I hadn't played the game in a while up until a few weeks ago), but the Lateral Quickness slider does absolutely nothing on next gen. I've tested it at 0, at 100, and everything in between, and movement on defense (whether you're holding L2 or just using the left stick) is exactly the same. At first I thought that maybe the attribute itself is broken, as I had seen videos from 2KTutes earlier in the year that showed no difference with defensive movement regardless of what Lateral Quickness was set to, but there was a difference when you lowered the Speed rating. So I tested again by just dropping the Speed slider to 0, and left stick movement (with or without sprint) was extremely slow, but lateral movement while holding L2 was still at full speed.

Obviously, this means that Speed is not controlling lateral L2 movement any longer, and sliders cannot fix the issue. So I modified a roster and dropped everyone's Lateral Quickness rating by 50. Jumped into a new game with that roster loaded, and now lateral movement while holding L2 is incredibly slow as you'd expect.

So in short, the attribute itself is working properly. The slider has no effect. L2 movement speed is controlled by Lateral Quickness, not by Speed, and if you want to get rid of the ridiculous sliding on defense you'll need to edit the roster and not the sliders.

Hopefully 2K sees this and can push through an update ASAP so we don't have to mess with the rosters. If not, at least we can Quick Edit and lower everyone's rating all at once.

Note: I will be updating the "Speed, Accel, Lateral Quickness" thread in my signature tonight with this information added, I just wanted to post a separate thread so that everyone could see this information immediately.

Would your advice be to change the lateral quickness to 50 on whatever roster is being used?

Are all kinds of sliders okay with this modification?

Something I've noticed just today, and I'm not sure if it's just a me thing or not but you should check just in case, making changes to the CPU speed in sliders and saving then loading doesn't save the change.

I switched my user and CPU speed from 50 to 25, saved the sliders, then loaded, and only the User change stuck. Tried multiple times, with different sliders, and different values, it seems to only be the CPU speed that's doing it.

So now I'm having to manually go into my sliders and reset the CPU speed when I enter a game.

Not to 50, but I would universally decrease Lateral Quickness by 10 or so. While I said in the OP that lateral movement isn't "controlled" by the Speed rating, Speed does still play a noticeable part in how fast a player moves when holding L2 on defense. So you can get away with dropping the Lateral Quickness rating by quite a bit without making fast players feel heavy or stuck in place. This has the added benefit of making slow players noticeably slow when matched up against an Iso dribbler like Kyrie, so you will no longer have trouble breezing past Rudy Gobert in a 1v1 on the perimeter.

I think you're right! I've noticed almost every time I go in to tweak the sliders, the CPU Speed isn't set to the value I thought I had set it to. I thought I was just messing up and forgetting to change that value, but this makes a lot more sense!
