Can anyone recommend a dribble tutorial using regular players?

I'm trying to figure out dribbling for an offline franchise, and all of the dribble tutorials are built around using Curry and Fox and other top-end players. Or else they're about finding the most overpowered builds and using them to beat people online.

Is there a video for people who want to play offline, something about how people like me (lower stick skill, newer to the game) can utilize more mid-level players and at least occasionally get around a defender? I can't seem to get the timing down and I end up dribbling around for a couple seconds while the AI defender yawns and waits for me to pass it away for a last-minute semi-contested shot.

I can't seem to get by anyone using the likes of Jalen Suggs or Cade Cunningham. I realize it's mostly a skill issue, I'm just hoping for help finding instructions I can better understand.

Have you seen any of Kevin Cruz videos? That's usually a good place to start. But your going to take the player to the practice court. Animations are so wide variety now. You really need to know how much each one together.

Also have you played around with go to shots? There are also breakdown combo for each player. It's a "canned" animation that you can break out of by flicking the right stick.

**Just a disclaimer I don't have 2k25 and not great with the Dribble sticks**

I think Kevin Cruz is a great resource for knowing all of the moves, but this video from Da Czar (from 2k24) is what I'm going to try to work out how to Dribble with different players. My idea that it will be my understanding from one go to move and then I can branch from that. The go to move may be different for different characters and the way you want to finish is dependent on who you are using and there strengths.

For example with Jake Brunson I found his ball hand switch back very nice, as it has a step back in it, so I was going to play games of 1v1 Blacktop, and Scrimmage where I focus on getting the feel of his switchback in lots of settings and how the CPU react to it and build moves on top of that, most likely simple drives, attacking size up or a step back so I can perceive what the defenders is doing and act accordingly.

I also want to play with playing with different paces, walk and jog. As well as using shielding the ball (LT) into screens.

As you experiment I'd love to hear your findings

It's funny you brought up Jalen Brunson.

I assume you do similar stuff out of the pick and roll?

Here is another great video. This might be more simpler

Another great resource. I can understand needing a specific player tutorial, but these guys who teach the game so well give us all the building blocks to do it ourselves.

Another gaming example is a Pixel Art Brawler my children are playing Shovel Knight Showdown. All the fighters have the same controls, we as users play with individual characters and understand their specific strengths and weaknesses the more we play. Same for 2k.

I don't get to play much and am trying to reacquaint myself to the controls, but each time I learn a new control I can use that with another character and then need to work out if it is successful with them/how would I use it to be successful.

For example I've played 2 X 5 mins shoot around to learn DeAngelo Russell's switchbacks to ball hand and offball hand plus a little of shot timing. Then I've play a few scrimmages to experiment how to use them in game. 30 mins in Scrimmage gave me a stress free play to try the switchbacks with Russell, LeBron and Austin Reaves plus work on using face up drives (with ADl, test a switch mechanic on D, try some motion and using receive screen play call.

              PS I lost 50 to 37.

While it is 'practice' it is a lot my live than freestyle shoot around(which has its place) and isn't the 1 hour plus they spend in freestyle mode or all the games they would play. These YouTube guys are the top 5%.

I'm like 99% sure I spend about 90 percent of my time in freestyle mode. Then I play 2 games and try it out on a human

I have been wondering for the guys that develop the game or must be weird knowing certain things

Re: Can anyone recommend a dribble tutorial using regular players?

Thanks for all the recs, I *had* seen the first Kevin Cruz video, but I went and watched another video of his that recommended using L2+RS diagonals, then chaining off of that.

After I practiced a bit more in Freestyle mode, something clicked for me. I still end way too many possessions with a defender standing in place while I sorta dance around, but I'm starting to figure out how to break down a defender in ISO every once in a while. I feel like with more reps, I'll get it going.

There's something about the rhythm of dribbling that can't really be explained in a video, and it's even hard to get in Freestyle - I had to play with a defender on me to see when the boosts actually happen, and what that looks like.

One solid thing I figured out as like a bedrock dribbling move: assuming ball is in the right hand, hold L2 and hit diagonal up/left. Before that dribble ends, and while still holding L2, use Cruz's recommended boost with Turbo and RS Up/Right for a solid cut.

It took a little practice for me to keep holding L2, then letting it go when the boost dribble starts, but once I kinda got that down, you can start chaining other stuff in. Pretty quickly, you can have some fun dribble breakdowns.

Another video that helped a lot was Czar's explanation of what changed from 2k24 to 2k25 with the dribbling. Like, before, when you'd hit those dribble moves, and it was kind of a canned animation, there wasn't a lot of thought about momentum and an actual person trying to perform those moves. So thinking about how an actual body goes through those motions might help you to have a more intuitive understanding of when and how to move your dribbler.

One of the biggest "ah ha" moments was realizing how often I'd make a dribble move or two, then slam the turbo button and move towards the basket, and expecting it to work. I realized that speed changes can be a hell of a lot more effective than pure speed, which, thinking back to when I was playing basketball IRL, is something I realized way too late and was probably one amongst many reasons I never got further than riding the pine in high school and playing pickup ball.
