    Alley Oops in NBA 2k25

Is it just me or is anyone else having problems with correctly timing alley oops? Every time I throw one the receiving players doesn't catch it and I don't know why 2k decided these types of dunks needed a dunk meter being that they worked perfectly in nba 2k24.

Isn’t it the same is 24? I’ve been doing the same thing and have had no issues.

Yes you are spot on... If you search for it you will see a A LOT of players are disgusted with this dunk/layup meter system they have implemented into the game the last few years... It is ridiculous!!! For one it makes the game ugly with a big meter popping up during gameplay when your just trying to dunk. And 9x's outta 10 you will miss the lob for the alley oop as the system is broken and doesn't work accurately. It totally changes how I play because even when given an easy alley opportunity I will not risk it simply because I know the chances of completing is so low... So needless to say I don't try many during the course of a game.

I haven't tried an alley oop in game since 2K23. We should be able to have the option to press the shoot button or use the meter. I don't use any shot meters so it doesn't make any sense to force me to use a meter just for a dunk. I agree with Makeufamous NDZ.

In the past I've been told to ignore the meter and just hit X right before the player gets the ball. It's worked well for me so far though I don't attempt very many in game situations.

I'll die on my old man hill; 2K needs to give us the option to have the pre 2K23 (or whatever year it was) alley oops system offline. It's more aggravating than anything. Besides, the old system was fine.

80 hours played on the game, failed every single alley-oop attempted. Either my players completely misses the ball, either the AI steals the ball in the air in the most easiest way possible.
Of course, on the other side, AI throws ridiculously difficult alley-oops that goes on 10 times out of 10.
I just don't get how this works, the system just seems so dumb.

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but it’s pretty easy. Once you double tap Y/Triangle to throw the ball up, just wait for the ball to get close to the player and press the shoot button (X on Xbox, Square on PS5). I want to say the meter is based on a combination of the passer’s pass rating, the dunker’s dunk rating, and if a defender is challenging it or not.

But if you just watch when the ball gets close to the guy catching it and dunking it, then you should make it pretty much every time. If anything it’s almost too easy to make if you have a solid PG and big man.

EDIT: Also when are you guys throwing the ball? I usually do them on fast breaks or out of P&R since the dunker is going to the hoop. Will make it much less likely that the ball will be stolen or tipped.

I’m convinced they were literally nerfed in the past week.

The alley oop slider does nothing either. At 100 I should be able to do it easy but I suck.

Only asking because I’m curious, but do you guys have videos of you trying or can explain what you are doing when trying an alley oop? I just can’t think of anything changing in the last few years and I haven’t had any issues with it this year at all.

Yeah I haven't had any trouble with alley pop. Threw one to KG the other no problem

I don't have an issue with the meter. That said, why is it not optional? Why not give us a toggle option to turn it off if we don't want to use it? Seems like common sense to me..

This is it right here. If online play insists upon requiring a meter, so be it. But a toggle option for offline play would be ideal.

Thankfully, I'm generally able to make more lobs than I miss but it's always on a wing and a prayer. I never know what my target is and the meter goes way too fast for me to incorporate any degree of skill in the process, so I end up just pressing what feels right, which often works, but almost more coincidentally than anything else. As a result, I never fully trust lobs because I don't actually know what I'm doing; I'd much rather have the normal system return.
