Question: Real FG% vs User Timing

When NBA Live was King--circa 90s-- I used the "auto" setting for shots, assuming it relied upon player stats/ratings. I've never attempted this on 2K (I imagine this is "Real FG %"). I'm considering it, but does shot timing/release play any role with Real FG % enabled? With the shot input lag, I'm trying to think of ways to ease my frustration when I can't get KG to make open shots (sometimes there isn't even another player in the arena, let alone in his face) from his known hot spots.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I only play with real FG%. I have no evidence to support but it does feel like when shooting free throws timing is still important. Many times I can sort of tell if it's going to make or miss before the ball reaches the rim. If I get in a good rhythm with a guy's release I can usually swish 2 in a row.

I think your timing is still a factor. Its just not as important as it is with user timing. For me all user timing does is either 1. make the game too easy when I master my player's jumpshots or 2. annoy me when they miss wide open, perfectly timed jumpers. But maybe its not a factor, I don't know that anybody other than a developer knows for sure.

This is the response I was hoping for. I want shooting to reflect ratings...but now I guess 2Ks questionable ratings will come into play.

Funny you mention that because I never used "manual" in Live because it allowed me to make mid range jumpers with Rodman. Even as a kid, that seemed wrong. And you have a point. When you master a player's release on 2K, you can hit a high percentage of questionable shots.

I would like release to still be a factor, as it definitely is IRL, but it's not all there is to the shot. I'm going to try this out.
