How can you possibly play the 3 point contest? It's broken in NG

You can never time your shot correctly. It goes into the zone of the ball icon and it will still hilariously miss. You cannot fricking run to the next rack despite spamming EVERY SINGLE BUTTON ON THE CONTROLLER.

I can never finish the racks comfortably and I'm always running out of time. Any tips for playing it properly?

People said it was broken last year too but it was mostly a case of patience and learning the controls. If you took your time to actually learn how it worked then it worked pretty well.

I was so excited to be chosen for the 3 point contest my rookie year... And then I played it. Wow. Terrible awkward controls. Are you supposed to hit square to initiate the shot motion and then hit it again to stop in the ball? I didn't play last years game so this is the first time I'm seeing this terribly awkward setup.

All star weekend has always been the most under improved and utilized mode in 2K. I think a solid all star weekend as a whole could be awesome if they would actually fix this buggy crap

You're supposed to hold and then release but you need to like release before the meter even comes up because it's so buggy and delayed.

But don't even worry. You're not going to beat the competition. They score ridiculously high. I lost to Durant who scored 27/30 the first round and then 20+ in the second which isn't even possible. The simulating is broken for it when you skip through the competition's shots.

I retried the 3 point contest about 5 times in MyCareer.. I couldn't catch a groove.. There was no consistency.. The ball meter wouldn't stop when I let go, and no matter how fast I'd shoot, I'd still have a full corner rack left.

I'm glad some of you say it works fine, but it's broken for me.

I was also invited to the dunk contest, but that never happened. It just said someone else won.

I can only imagine how corny the dunk contest would actually be.

It's more about the rhythm between pushing L2 to pick the ball up, and doing a little more than "flicking" R3 (It's most similar to the timing of Steph Curry's Free Throw shot).

I won by shooting 18 in the first round (lowest scorer), and 12 in the final round!
Stick it out and keep trying.

Even when learning the controls, I feel the 3-point contest is enormously clunky and nearly devoid of intuition. The mode is the antithesis of fluidity and I believe it's been largely ignored by gamers (along with the dunk contest) due to its poor design and execution.

Off the cuff, here's some ways to improve the 3pt. Shootout:

1. Provide explicit on-screen instruction showing how each portion of the 3pt. Shootout works.

2. Provide a video tutorial as well as a Practice option:: This would allow gamers to get a grasp on controls instead of getting to the contest and trying to compete, learn, and panic all at the same time.

3. Smooth out the animations and controls: In the current format, pressing the shot button too soon after the previous release will result in no response and zero feedback, leaving gamers mashing the stick to try to recover. I feel this is a no-go. The shot process is very poorly replicated in its current format. Further, I believe the animations involving reaching to the rack, loading up, and setting one's feet could all be smoothed out. Currently, everything feels incredibly choppy.

4. Allow gamers to choose shooter's uniforms, or whether shooters wear their warmups (or just a shooter shirt)

5. Have the rest of the players looking on (maybe along other all-stars in street clothes) while one is going through his round: Currently, the bench is empty while a player shoots.

6. Introduce the money ball rack (if the NBA chooses to stay with this format

7. Bring about some more natural post-round reactions instead of shooters just staring off into the void.

8. Trophy Presentation: Again, instead of the winner standing by himself in the middle of the floor while announcers compliment him on his victory, I believe a trophy presentation (with authentic 3-Point Shootout trophy) is in line. If the user wins this contest during a MyPlayer or Franchise campaign, I believe their trophy should be added to a viewable trophy case, dated and referencing which player took the crown (along with their score).

It's a little separate from the three-point shootout, but I think a trophy case in a "The Crib" type of setting would be a great way of giving earned accolades a deeper sense of ownership & accomplishment.

I don't understand why they decided to totally change the shooting mechanics after you've just spent 40+ games mastering your player's shot release.

The mode needs to be playable from the normal gameplay camera, with your normal shot release timing.

It's no way anyone could defend this. It's not completely broken, but it needs a big improvement. It is almost unplayable depending on who you have.

It doesn't make sense you have to keep spamming a button for you it to work and to at least get to the last rack. Needs to be much smoother and responsive.
