Right now im watching the OKC vs HOU game

- neither team is really playing defense

- Kevin Durant is crossing up and dunking/driving to the basket at will

- wide open 3s from both teams. We always complain about perimeter defense and there is virtually none that im seeing (Houston has made 10 3s)

- Big men are shooting 3s

- OKC and HOU are about to score 60 points before the half. HOU is going to score more than 60 before the half. (73)

- players aren't contesting drives to the basket

- players who are average in the game are actually scoring points and competing in real life (Brooks and James from Houston)

This is just some of what I noted for this post. These are things we complain about when we want simulation from sports games.

How does 2k account for what im seeing from two real life teams? Especially since most of what I mentioned is what we dont like?
This is one game you're watching, the issue is this happens with every team everyday not just one game.

If the basics of basketball isn't the primary then 2K is just making a game for money.

When slow PF's & C's run and get to their top spd after you press turbo to pass you or catch up with you is a issue.

I real life players get mad or quit playing for different reasons.

When the CPU can catch the ball out of air yet the user teammates stand and look at the ball after it hit them in the body, face, then roll on the floor is terrible.

By using averages and making a game where gameplay is dynamic.

I feel it is that to an extent already. Teams feel different and you can have some games where your star player will score 30 points in five straight games then suddenly go 5 for 15 and struggle. Thats just realistic to me.

What's he supposed to do in half court O? Guy has no moves. It's hard to watch his touches that don't translate directly into dunks.

Some big men can actually run but you do make a point.

The biggest problem with defense imo is each team doesnt have there own defensive philosophy like there real life counterparts do. Teams have defensive philosophies for a reason, and sometimes there flawed, and sometimes players just dont put in effort. I think there needs to be more defensive attributes personally. Like one for your ability to play one on one d, and another for your effort on d, then another for your ability to rotate and play good positional d. Then there needs to be one for your consistency on d.on top of that, there needs to be a team rating for consistency on d. The consistency thing would be the difference between the game you described in the op, and how most nba games go in general. But even 2k admitted that consistency is hard to put in game, so until they get that down pat, this game will play that much less like real life.

I pretty sure that if a "sim player" scored 73 points in the first half of the game, they would be contemplating quitting to readjust their sliders. Furthermore, if they continued and only scored 19 points in the second half they would probably rage quit because the game is "scripted" and the CPU doesn't want them to win.
A video game is not real basketball tho yo so you cant really say that tho. When we say we want a sim basketball game we just want to be rewarded for replicating real basketball strategy and fundamentals.

It has nothing to do with what happened last night b/c ppl are controlling whats going on behind the sticks and nobody is trying to play bad defense dude.

However if I was playing bad d and the cpu or human opponent was intelligently exploiting my weaknesses and I could see I was doing something wrong and could justify why they scored 73 in a half I dont think ANYBODY would have a problem. We would be saying 2k is TRULY sim then, if we could honestly justify our loss by something we did wrong.

BUT thats not what happens tho dude, there's way to many iffy moments, glitches and bugs where you have questionable situations that make no sense and to less control.

So that 73 point thing is not really a good example bruh, that shyte only happens once every blue moon anyway homey. "C'MON MAN" LOL
