How to dunk?

I've searched the OS forum, watched YouTube videos, and completed the trainings but I am still struggling to dunk. Seems the only time I can dunk is if I get a steal and no one around me, but sometimes my player will still go for a layup. I know it's says to hold R2 and point the right stick to the net, and in the training it's telling you to point up. During a game do you point the stick to the left or right depending on which side of the court is the offensive zone?
It's getting frustrating, I purposely would give the ball to LeBron on each possession and all I get is lay ups and finger rolls.

usually for me to dunk i just sprint to the hoop and hit the shoot button. Also i have noticed increase in Facial or Contact Dunks by using the Primetime Badge. My first game where i used that badge i ended up with a season high in dunks for my player with like 10 or so, i was just powering those dunks down.

RT + Hold Right Stick Toward the basket. If you press to the right or left it will do hop step.

Keep in mind you aren't going to posterize every time. I'd say there is about 5-6 dunks per game in the NBA for each team on average, so if you are playing 6 min quarters you should only see 2-3 dunks a game.

They don't happen every possession.

When do you start the dunk? I saw something that said midrange. And also on a offensive rebound do you still use RT and square to do a standing dunk? Because my centers even attempt layups when they are right next to the rim.

Well if do you have a lane then yeah start about 10-15 feet out and make sure you have momentum.

I have Oladipo and Wiggins on my GM mode and they get their fair share of dunks.
