Driving to the Basket?

Hi Everyone,

I am fairly new to this series but really enjoy the gameplay. I was looking for advice on how to best drive to the basket. I have come more familiar with the dribble moves, but have a hard time beating my man off the dribble in an iso situation.

Could you folks give me some pointers on how to beat your man off the dribble? I usually try a few moves and then press RT to try and explode to basket... Do you guys use RT much for turbo?..

Thanks!

Hold down Circle (B on Xbox) to have a guy set a pick for you. You might find a mismatch with your ball-handler and their power forward/center, which will help you beat him off the dribble.

Search for JerseyMade93 on YT. He has a bunch of dribbling tutorials on his channel.

Here's a 'How To Turbo' tutorial from 2K13 but it still holds true for 2K14.

Re: Driving to the Basket?

The video above has some great tips. The turbo button (RT) is typically always in use at some point when i'm playing though. I find myself using it more on defense though to pick off passes and then in the same play running back in transition for a fast break point.

Driving to the basket is a physical game so I would suggest trying to draw the foul when driving to the basket. If your effective from the free throw line in my experience your opponent will not be so quick to foul you on the drive and you typically then will get a decent look at a layup going forward. Also playing with someone who has the finisher signature skill will give you big advantages when driving to the hoop.

Keep practicing!

Re: Driving to the Basket?

The post spin is kinda cheesy but it will get you to the basket.

Post up on the wing or, even better, at the top of the key after calling for an iso. Spin away from the defender and you will be at the basket pretty quick for a layup / dunk or a harm and the hoop from your frustraited defender. Couple this with finisher / posterizer and you be attacking the rim with reckless abandon. With a mildly skilled offensive player, this move is virtually unstopable. Plus you can also dish out when the defense collapses for easy assits.

Re: Driving to the Basket?

Thank you guys! I have watched some of the vids and have laid off the turbo button. I am getting a bit better and here are two things that really help.

1. Consistently use (RT) Back for a escape dribble then perform a move before going forward again.

2. Perform moves and wait for the animation to finish before pressing toward the hoop. This seems to be a timing thing but if you hit the right spot, it gives a you a solid launch towards the basket.

Do you guys run more plays on offense or isolation/Pick N Rolls?
