Use the R-stick to set up dribble move, once you see a little open move towards the basket and tap or hold x or square.

You could use the same R-stick, but the button gives the best layups and dunks for the right situation.

I know it's been said many times before, but I love how this game plays with mainly default sliders. It just feels better, and more simulation without having to alter every single slider in order to get a realistic game. The CPU's AI has really taken a big step up this year. Props to 2k.

Yeah, Beds (bedwardsroy19) has done a great job with the 2K roster updates this year.

I think a main solution to keep the cpu out of the paint is to dare them to shoot then close out. Playing tight or smothering pressure will get you burnt.

Funny you say that. The other day when I was playing the Rockets, I didn't set my defensive matchups and just played guys straight-up. I sagged a bit off of Harden to limit the blow-by dribbles from him and when I saw him raise-up to shoot I'd try and contest. The strategy definitely worked until late when he took advantage of that and burned me with some 3-pointers late.

So, I do think there's some merit to that strategy but you have to be willing to adjust as the game goes on.

This works well for me when the contest animations actually trigger. Unfortunately, my players don't always respond to my contest shot commands.
