How's Your myGM Going? NBA 2K15 Edition

Disclaimer: I know that there is a thread for myLeague. Yet, from what I've seen, there is not an official thread to discuss myGM. The mode is vastly different from myLeague. MyGM focuses on the player relationships with coaches, players, and running the franchise whereas myLeague is lets you run the NBA as you see fit.


I started a myGM as soon as the game downloaded. (I played the Heat-Spurs demo a few times to get a feel for the game.) The team- the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets are my favorite team, mainly because I live in NJ and also because I like how they rebranded themselves through their relocation to Brooklyn.

The owner told me that my goals were to...

1) Get the roster to be top 15 in the league (currently at 20th)
2) Trade for a first round pick by the trade deadline
3) Win at least 20 home games
4) Trade either Andrei Kirilenko or Mirza Teletovic (expiring contracts)

I'll trade Kirilenko before the deadline. I'm reducing his minutes to intentionally upset him so he'll hopefully ask for a trade. If I have to, I'll trade both Teletovic and Kirilenko if that's what it takes to get a first round pick.

Social media makes this mode 10 times better. The players themselves "tweet" when they get hurt/return, which is cool. The multiple power rankings/big boards really enhance the mode as well.(I forget the order, but I was 15th, 17th, and 24th in the power rankings before my first game.)

I looked at the free agents. Nobody really jumped out at me. If I trade Teletovic and/or Kirilenko, I'll probably need a small forward. Nobody available really interested me, so hopefully I'll be able to get some value in addition to a draft pick.

I might trade Brook Lopez. I'm a big fan of Mason "The Plumber" Plumlee. Lopez can't stay healthy and is getting old anyway, so he might not be worth so much money. Plumlee is much younger and cheaper.

Through two games, I'm 1-1, both on the road. I dropped the opener to Boston . I led in the final two minutes, but bad clock management and a missed Joe Johnson shot let Boston win. Then, the "consensus" favored the Pistons to beat me, but I traveled to Detroit and won 111-102. Bojan (spelling) Bogdanovic was a revelation, as he scored 24 points. In the opener, he repeatedly missed shots. For game 2, I slightly decreased his minutes, and he took the threat well. Johnson/ Deron Williams can seemingly score from anywhere. Jarrett Jack is a dangerous perimeter shooter but he wants a bigger role which I don't want to give him. Jack's already frustrated with his playing time.

I don't know why, but Lionel Hollins is already unhappy. I "spoke" with him (an awesome feature) and told him something along the lines of, "I know we're not necessarily on the same page right now, but I want you to be the guy to run this team." That at least temporarily boosted his trust/happiness.

The schedulers are cruel: my home opener comes against the OKC Thunder. I selected the "use roster injuries" option to yes, but it doesn't say Durant is hurt. So, it looks like I'll be tasked with defending with reigning MVP in front of my home fans.
