Blocking Alley Oops

How do you block alley oops? The CPU constantly does it against me but, i'm struggling to do it myself.

You just have to have position and press Square or X to do it.

Either hold the steal button or box out the cutter .

The problem is against the CPU you don't really see it coming .

Against other users you see it coming and it still completes despite getting "tipped pass"

Run into the jumper with hands up, he will miss majority of time.

I don't recommend trying to block them by jumping into the air yourself.

The CPU is really good at swatting them away like that, but triggering that super swat jump animation is hard to do as a human defender.

Run into the jumper with hands up, he will miss majority of time.

You don't even need to put your hands up in the air.

Just standing in front of the targeted offensive player while holding down the left trigger will usually prevent him from catching the oop cleanly.

I use that method at 3:45 of this video to stop the other team's center from catching an oop, and the ball just goes straight out of bounds without him even getting off the ground:

The guys on the other team in this particular game were trying to jump up and block our oop passes, and they just got dunked on all game long.

I really wish NBA 2K wasn't tuned this way. Jumping to block oops should be way more effective than it is in 2K basketball. If you're defending the oop recipient from any angle but straight on (where you can hold him up with the left trigger), it's basically an automatic dunk for the other team.
