The square + left stick method....once you get it down you can chain all kinds of moves together....

The options doing this are endless and almost always get you an open look, chaining a crossover with the gather is beautiful, the move Sam posted is a retreat dribble not a stepback

Yeah i was trying to describe that move in the pullup vs drive thread bo explained it much more clearly.Its a very vesatile mechanism which can be used going to wards the basket for a more cosistant pul up. Try using it with signature sizeups as well deadly .

Used to pull off some killer step backs back in '13 when all you had to do was press O (or B). I've spent at least a couple of hours trying to consistently perfect it but to no avail. What works for me is holding down the right stick away from the basket while moving in one direction.

I hear you, wish I could give you some tips but it's just one of those things you'll get or you don't haha...

and yeah, '13 had some smooth step backs

Using just stick works great when your moving 'acrost' the basket. But if going toward the hoop or if you lose your momentun you have to use the square stick method. I dont think there is a way to do those excape pullups or stepback with the right stick.
