Why do people need the "who to guard" arrow

imo this messes up my park 'cause instead of rotating and playing defense, guys are staring at their dumb arrow. I turn mine off in the controller settings. if you don't know who to guard or get confused after a few games, then pretty sure you're not gonna understand defense.

Just makes it easier to see where your man is when you're helping on D, especially when there are players on the court that look similar.

the arrow is there to let people know who their man is ,when you get that one guy who feel hes the best defender in the whole game and ruins all the match ups

Because it's supposed to be used as a visual aid, NOT a crutch.

It's a God send for people who play on camera views that doesn't always allow you to see your matchup. In 2K view when you have it turned off you could be on the completely other side of the court as your matchup because you can't actually see them until they are long past half court.

Just because there's a mechanic in the game you don't use or don't understand, doesn't make it useless. There's definitely less useful things worth complaining about.

Your teammate grade is more dependent on it now too. I agree that you should play help/ rotate defense and not get burned for it, but because of the potential dropping of your grade it almost forces you to not.

Why do people feel the need to complain about game mechanics that have no negative effect on anything? You don't know what another player is looking at on his own screen...

I already listed the negative effects. And I've talked to plenty of ballers -- crew, mypark - many of them use /need the arrow. Also check out any 2k15 stream or youtube vid, most use the noob arrow. Not using the arrow is probably in the minority. I just don't understand how someone can call themselves "good" and yet have no idea who they're supposed to guard without needing an arrow to tell them. I understand it's for a visual aid, but you'd think after 10 games you'd get the hang of it right? The problem is some guys never learn how to play rotation defense (case in point: my park) because they're obsessed with doing what the arrow tells them instead of deciding for themselves where to be on the court.

many arrow users are like Knicks or Twolves on defense --> aka "that's YOUR man dude!"

as opposed to a team like the Warriors or Spurs --> constantly switching on defense and not obsessed with "their man", only team defense.

Uh yea ok, this is a non-issue. You said that you turn it off in your settings so I suggest you just keep doing that and worry about your game instead of worrying about what other people are doing on their screen in their game.

Lol ya'll get offended easy I guess. We're talking about an ONLINE MULTIPLAYER mode, so of course how others play or what they see is going to be relevant to everyone. When did I ever say this was a game flaw? Chill. It helps NOOBS.... great. But look around my park and tell me how many really understand how to play defense. It's because they continue to need training wheels ('who to guard' arrow).

I'm fed up of covering for people on defence when the ball then just gets kicked to my man who is now wide open to drain the 2 pointer, so if I'm playing park with people I don't know, then I only guard my man and to hell with everyone else, because I'm just fed up of getting the terrible end of this deal.

To cap it off, after covering for one of my random team mates continually throughout a game, and often getting caught between 2 players as he stood under the rim, he then messaged me afterwards to say that I'm terrible on d. At that point, I just thought I'd protect my own team mate grade unless I'm playing with people that know how to play the game, or we're at least mic'd up so we can tell each other what's happening.

Unless you're actually communicating, then just leaving your man to guard someone else creates more problems on the park than just guarding your allotted man.

One thing the park does highlight though, is the fact there is no need to continually send you from one side of the court to the other in career mode trying to guard different people on every possession. The game works in park so you're responsible for your opposite number, but in career mode it's like musical chairs at times, and it's horrible to play.

If you just play NORMAL BASKETBALL you dont have to worry about arrows or what other people do. You are responsible of ur man and in case ur teammate needs support u go and help but remain responsible of ur man!

This guy really makes a thread about this lol? I've never thought I would hear someone complain about arrows showing you who to guard. Like others said, just turn yours off.

I don't find myself using it except when my defense is out of my camera view on occasions. Also the park definitely needs it because if you're playing w/ randoms or etc, people have on all types of different clothing and you might come across some people that have on the exact same clothes and look identical.

As someone who plays park, I understand where he's coming from. I've gotten tripped up by the arrow a few times myself when I probably should've just switched. Leaving it up to the individual to turn it off works for the very few that are able to realize it's a problem but for a casual user, they aren't going to realize it's a problem. You can still have an arrow for all players off screen (something I wish they'd put in the game), but it's a valid argument that the "who to guard" might be better off turned off by default for MyPark.

In reality two people would be talking to each other - online no one talks to each other.
