Some People Are Just Great At Rec

So, my total park record is 248-198. A solid beit unspectacular 50 games over .500.

I'd say I've probably played 40-50 rec games, though, and I would guess my teams have won more than 3, and less than 10 games. No matter it be a group I know and we get together, or a group of random guys my teams always get waxed.

Do a lot of you have similar experiences?

It depends totally on the team. I've had people not play their position, teams run up and down the court as if the entire game is 21. While I play I find most people do not control the clock or try to set up lanes.

The rec is a lot different than the park. I wish I could say it was less cheesy, but it isn't, the cheeses are just different.

I have a .80 win ratio at the rec but only like a .60 at the park. To win at the rec you need at least 1 or 2 guys who know how to rebound, at least 1 or 2 guys who know how to hit 80% of there shots from anywhere on the court, and 5 guys who know how to lock up on defense.

It's hard to explain all the details in one post, but the more you play rec the more you start to realize how to win, and what kind of teammates that are so bad you wouldn't wish them on your worst enemy.

I've got 400+ rec games in. 300+ wins. (not sure of exact numbers). There's an aspect of people realistic basketball and team ball and also some exploitation. Me as a point guard I always need a big C/PF to run the lane, catch lobs, set screens, and get a ton of boards. It also helps if they can spread the floor. You need at least two guys over 7 feet tall. A pass fist point guard and extremely good fundamental defense. Know hot to run the 3-2 zone as well when people are exploiting the mid range cheese. If you're on the ps4, hit me up. my psn is CroRupt and you can run rec games with me and my squad. Rec is really fun if you're playing with the right people.

Definitely agree with this. Playing with a pass first point guard who understands pace and who doesn't always pass for just the assist alongside 2 bigs is pivotal. Although I played PF as a 6'8 SF and have dominated the lane by boxing out and playing the passing lanes.

Definitely agree with this. Playing with a pass first point guard who understands pace and who doesn't always pass for just the assist alongside 2 bigs is pivotal. Although I played PF as a 6'8 SF and have dominated the lane by boxing out and playing the passing lanes.

That is very true. I really dislike it when i'm playing extremely efficient on ball d and all it takes is the guy with the ball to turbo around the perimeter and chuck up a terrible shot only for it to go in. .

Most important positions to me are PG and C at the rec. As long as you have 2 good players who are playing those positions as supposed to (IMO, PG = a mix of scoring and passing...C=grabbing rebounds and playing down low) you will always have a close game. My record at the rec is 219-31, averaging 16ppg and 13rpg.

This is right on, easily the 2 most important positions. A good center, and I mean actually good in the world of the JRC, then you're off to a great start. A good point guard to dish/hit a few open 3's, then you can beat most random teams easily, and keep up with any team if your 2-3-4 are good scorers and play strong defense.

First if your defense or anybody on defense sucks they'll get exposed.

Second if you can't shoot or know be agressive enough to take shots when you have them, you're gonna lose.

Third if you absolutely need at least 2 7'0" guys who know how to boxout and can rebound. Blocking shots isn't a must but if you can block shots, that's a plus. They must also be able to play good defense, but people rarely use post players. If the bigs can shoot you're already at an advantage.

Fourth. Be agressive. If you're team isn't scoring or turning the ball over at a high rate. Shoot it. Don't take bad shots or bad 3s, but drive and shoot that OP mid range shot.

Fifth. Learn to call and play an effective 3-2 zone. This is probably the most helpful tip and if you're playing with randoms it might not work but usually when you run a zone someone is always where a player wants to shoot.

Sixth. Watch the 3 point line. Watch the corner and watch the wings. Most likely the ppl you play with won't play defense but if you notice a player getting a lot of steals or blocks, keep them around lol...

Seven. No lead is safe with even 1 random. I was playing a game and we were literally up 20 but we had 1 random in a party chat that KEPT getting cooked by a 'Legend 2' ... a lot of ppl are intimidated by them and I'm not sure why, but this guy scored 30 points on 1 guy in 1 quarter. That was my worst experience ever. Sure it's a team game but to get cooked like that wasn't because he was a Legend it was because the guy played 0 defense. Of course once a player gets hot its a wrap and this guy was making every shot. I've even been apart of some incredible comebacks were I myself was 'unstoppable' but still there's no excuse for letting a guy shoot mid range after mid range then move to fastbreak 3s. At one point I just left my man to double/triple him. (This is when and why you run zone)

All in all, a great rec player is a great rec player. I've had games of 15/18, 17/18, 16/17 etc etc...I'm saying that to say, if you're not shooting over 60/70% you're playing wrong. Especially after the shooting patch. If you're shooting a low percentage, and by low I do mean under 70%, stop shooting because you're hurting your team more than you know. Most guys have at least 1 guy who can rebound and they already know the shooting is OP so they'll grab those misses and proceed to light you up, unless your defense is a good.

By defense I mean getting turnovers. Even if you're playing great defense, if a guy gets a shot up, there's a 60% chance it's going in. Take it from me, I pull up in ppls faces all the time. Especially if they're not playing close enough, I'll just hit a little crossover and it's a wrap. My high is 40 something and I had a guy I play with on the reg who's a guard drop 60 off of alley oops and drives. The other teams defense was that bad so we kept feeding him.

Which brings me to my last point. Feed the hot hand. If you're on a comeback or you have a guy who's just hit 4/5 in a row. Give him the ball because he knows what he's doing lol...Don't try to be the hero in a situation. Regardless of how many points you're up or you want to score, feed the hot hand until he misses a couple in a row. Usually he'll pass if he's not on anymore, but use your touch pad or whatever is on XBOX to check his rhythym. Pass to the guy with double rings. It's not about how many points you score. It's about wins.

Sidenote: I disagree with the guys saying PG & C are the most important POS at the rec. I agree with C being important for rebounding so that's true, but a good PG isn't needed to win in the rec. We usually have a 2 playing the 1 and we're good. BALL MOVEMENT is key and that doesn't require a rondo type PG. It requires a Spur/Hawk like team who won't hesistant to rotate the basketball to the open/hot hand. I have a 98 PG, I have a 80 something C and I have a 96 SF and my SF is by far the most effective scorer and points definitely matter just as much as rebounds. I had a triple double with my C before so assists aren't hard to come by.

When I do play with my PG I avg about 6/7 steals and around 8assists and that can turn a game around quickly, but my assists aren't always that high because I'm usually the scorer and the guys I play with aren't that pressed to SCORE they just want to WIN.

The best positions imo are SF and Centers. If your team has three 7ft SFs and two 7ft3in Centers then you're in great position.

The rec isn't realistic at all. I don't know a single basketball team in any league any where around the world that only takes jumpers and wins. Literally, you play man some teams just 3pt cheese like park and if you play Zone they corner cheese.

Rec is pointless.

Talking about being realistic will go on forever and get nowhere. The rec and the park are a complete joke on so many levels if you're looking for realism or sim basketball. But the point in playing is that's it's fun to get on and drop 110 on some team with your buddies and throwin the ball all over the court.


And as for the comments so far, the one about if you're shooting less than 60-70% in any given rec game, you're playing "wrong." I can't agree more with the use of the word "wrong." Because that's just it, the way the rec is, and the way the latest patch made it, if you aren't shooting above 60%, you aren't doing it right, and if you are doing it right, but you're still below 75%, then you're not doing it better than others. Nowadays there are countless dudes who can drop 50+ every game and shoot 80% the whole time.
