If the player changes teams from the default roster, it'll revert to the in game look. Doesn't make a whole lotta sense really. And I don't understand why its so hard to give a picture to the FA/Euros or CAPs they added during the season.
for example, guys like Alex Kirk, Joe Ingles etc that were signed during or at the very start of the season after 2K rosters were finalized never got photographs, but they do in MyTeam as they were added.....if they can do that, then surely a small art update is not impossible?
