Losing Features Every Year?

So I've been debating whether to post this topic or not. This isn't a hate message or criticism even, it's something I just always wondered.

Why does 2K take out features every year?

Most game series' add more to previous features and bring in complete new ones each time a game advances in a series, which 2K has done, (Pro-Am, MyPark) but we also lose features every year it seems. We lost online leagues from 2K14, lost crew mode from 2K11, and I am just wondering why?

These are clearly features everyone loved, and now we are finally getting them back, but it seems like the game series is taking 2 steps forward and another one back. So they still progress, but not as well.

Please post your thoughts on this!

Re: Losing Features Every Year?

Yeah it's interesting. I suppose we can only speculate unless someone from 2K chimes in.....

Here's mine;

I think they maybe just want to put more of a focus on certain modes/things and it unfortunately means some will not get the love that some people want. I am not sure their process of what to "cut back" on but I am sure they base it on something - be it, popularity, function etc.

And then things/modes make their way back in, in some form probably because they have finally gotten other things to where they are happy and can now focus on these things again.

I am an offline guy who plays Quick Game and then Season mode once I am good enough at the game......these things will always be available to me so I am really just speaking from a "common sense" stand point. Not too familiar with the specifics of your question though.....

I feel like this is a business model to keep the series going. If they keep everything, I think we would see games every three years.

They remove features if they can't get them to work correctly and they are being exploited, alot of features were removed when they initially moved to the PS4 and Xbox One and are just getting around to putting them back.

Re: Losing Features Every Year?

There are multiple threads in the madden forum and has been a running joke with most sports gamers over the last 2 generations of consoles that these titles almost deliberately remove features from games only to bring them back and claim they're "new".

I'm of a further mindset that until recently 2k was the most egregious offender with certain aspects of the game. I understand that the advent of social media is a double edged sword in that the masses have a tremendous amount of input now than they did before in how these games are made. I'm still not entirely sold on either of the bball titles right now even with the recent improvements 2k and ea have shown thus far strictly due to how 2k15 AND 14 have played out in consecutive years.

Firstly, let me explain that i loved the experience of both titles immensely in the first few months i played. Even after the first few patches rolled out i agreed with almost every change explained in the patches. But i also had cringe worthy reactions to most of them this year specifically.

I am not the best online player. I don't even think I'm the best mycareer player. However, i do believe I'm formidal with the sticks and almost every patch this year took something away from my game. First they toned down the dribbling (I'm usually a guard so that hurt) then it was the scoring inside (also detrimental to my game) then came defense.

All in all I'm just in a wait and see mentality

Re: Losing Features Every Year?

The major things left out this year were because the systems and/or mechanics for them were fubar.

Offseason for league play, as an example, is something that was worked on but it did not make the cut.

I would rather these non-working features be kept out then be frustrated and angry with something broken.

Re: Losing Features Every Year?

2K is a poorly run company despite having what appears to be
a very talented dev team.

Not only have so many great features gone missing over the last
decade weve lost online leaderboards and they refuse to do anything
about the servers.

Theyve also taken the main focus out of an "NBA" game and made it
about playing arcadish street ball in a park with souped up created
players.

In the last decade theyve also lost the NFL license and botched MLB
and NHL 2K along with the Tennis game.

Unfortunately for us consumers we're at the mercy of the incompetence
of the key decision makers of this company constantly.

Lets just hope they dont screw up the WWE game somehow
