GameStop finalization?

Just payed of the remaining amount for 2k16. I am going to the midnight release but the guy at the front counter told me to come in at 8 to finalize. What's the point if I just payed in full?

Basically it's just confirming that you're there to receive the game, and saving a place in line. If you haven't received your actual receipt for the game yet, you'll get it at that time too (it will probably have whatever pre-order bonus code you're entitled to on it).

If you've already made full payment, you won't pay anything more.

My local gamestop (Miami), to me to come back at 9 to finalize payment and grab a number. They are giving out tickets to make the process a lot smoother at 12. You go back, give them the ticket, they give you the game. Line moves faster since no one has to pay.

What would happen if I couldn't get there at 8 and get a ticket? Can I still get the game at midnight?

Yeah, so long as you're there before they close up shop (I'd say at least an hour after they release the game).

It's really just about saving a place in line.

My gamestop just gave me a reciept and told me to come pick up my game tonight at 10 or tommorow

I called just to double check the midnight release and was told to come in to finalize and get my number between 8-10. I ask if a little after 10:30 would be OK and he said not really need to be there before then atleats a little.


Never needed to to do this before, so not sure if they are expecting a lot of people tonight. Sucks because I cant stand for very long, plus my wife has to stay up to drive me there since I cant no longer drive due to meds, not cause I lost my Liscense,lol, so I feel bad for her too since she is normally in bed at this time.

I hear ya man. I have had to stop going to midnight releases starting about a year ago my health hit a point where its just not easy to do. I have cystic fibrosis and from about 9 pm to 1 am for whatever reason i can barely breath these days. So i go digital. And boy let me tell you that has been a blast with this game so many issues downloading 2k16 im at 83% finally so hopefully ill be ready to go by midnight haha.

What "finalize" means is they can't officially sell the game until a certain time. Once they start selling the game (finalizing in the system that the game has been fully paid for and can leave the store), they can't take any more pre-orders, so stores wait til a certain time the night of to finalize the transactions. Just because you're putting all the money down on it doesn't mean it's finalized in the system as being sold, basically. You could put all the money down the first day, but they can't ring that up as an official sale of the game until the night/day it releases.

I worked for Gamestop for 6 years and we always did it that way. It's just how their system works.

I hear ya man. I have had to stop going to midnight releases starting about a year ago my health hit a point where its just not easy to do. Sorry to hear about your health, I have ankylosing spondylitis and major back issues as well, that's why I hope not to stand in line too long our I might have to be carried out,lol.


I went digital a couple years ago on the PS3 with MLBTS and a NBA2k game and I didn't have any issues other than it does take a hwile to download. Would have thought the new consoles it would be improved, but its not, and what is even crazier is buying the disc and still having to wait a long time for it to DL. I went with the disc mainly incase my PS4 takes dump and I need a new 1, as Im not sure if I would have to buy it all over again or not, and just to have something to trade in to knock the price down some on next years game, but after only getting 5$ for trade in this year I might just go with digital from now on after all, as 5$ off really isn't enough to worry about considering I have to go out and drag my wife with me to drive e ach year just to get the game. I only buy 2 games anyway, NBA2k and MLBTS each year, as Madden usually isn't worth buying, or not every year anyway if ever,lol.

Get your ticket and wait in the car until the line dies down if you can't stand. They pride themselves are customer service and would hate to make the news because of an a-hole policy.

That's probably what I will do unless there is just a ton of people at it then Ill have not much choice but to stand or wait forever, unless I can get my wife to stand in line for me, but kjnd of hate to do that since Im dragging here out this late to drive me there. Thought about telling them my situation but hate to ask for any favors, nor do they owe me that, as Im sure the employees arnt thrilled with being there this late either.

If the place you got it from is having a midnight release you can, not every place does it. I would call that place now to check if I were you.
