This is the secret to Lockdown On-Ball Defense this year. Put them in a cage.

Some of you guys may have already known this, but i'll share it for those who dont.

In previous 2K's i would always put my defensive assist slider to 0. This means that I had 100% control of my defender and the CPU would not assist at all. This however, is not as effective in 2K16.

This year, you want to set your defensive assist slider to 100. This gives you the most CPU assist while play on ball. The CPU perimeter defense is really good as we all know, so getting the most help from them is the best way to go.

I don't know how i feel about this yet. I took pride in locking someone up with my OWN stick skills and never liked the CPU assistance. But if you're playing online this is the best counter for all the turbo.

The videos below show a My Team game(which is on a really cheesy difficulty) so if I could stop my opponent like this in My Cheese...i mean My Team, then this on-ball D should work even better in other online modes. I guess its good and its bad. I want ppl to EARN their defensive stops but at the same time i also want more people to play on-ball defense online....which this encourages.

I like the idea of your stick skills determining defensive stops

I like how you're giving the ball handler space. It's much easier to cut off angles when you give them the jumper. BTW, that Diplomats logo, center court, is sick. Nice post.

Loving the Dipset court, thought about making the same one.

You are using stick skill...you still have to take proper angles and guide your man to the help

I always looked at upping defensive assistance as basically saying "hold LT for me, I'll do the rest"

Not everyone can do it....nice vid and lock up

Thanks for the tip, I've basically been shooting myself in the foot this whole time because I would put it to zero.

                Hell yea EARV!

It's funny that people online don't even try to play basketball...just dribble around trying to zig zag...no passing, no nothing.

                Hilarious.

I have to try this out. I thought having it higher would lead to more bumping and sliding

This explains alot. Thanks, I'll have to try this out next time I play online.

I traditionally would hold L2 all the time and play deny defense. But this results in you getting blown past easily by speedy dribblers.

But like you just said, by upping the defense assistance then just feathering the left stick, you can play pretty decent defense that way. I just need to get used to it.

It defaults to zero now and I just left it there, and I've got much better at getting some stops, but when the CPU is on the baseline it seems like my defenders become intangible so I will definitely have to use this.

Yeah you still have to use some stick skills to put yourself in good positions. This doesn't mean the CPU completely takes over on-ball defense for you....no.

But i noticed that they assist with making contact with the ball-handler and give me more bump animations. Like I never would've bumped Westbrook out of bounds like that when i had it set to 0 before.

From my testing it seems that with less defensive assist it makes your defender feel lighter. With higher defensive assist, he feels more weighted. Sometimes my defender felt too light and I would move him out of position easily which was hurting me.

This year it also good to give some space when defending the ball-handler. I had to get out of the bad habit of sticking right on them because in 2K15 that was the only way to stop jumpshots. In 2K16, you really shouldnt do that because jumpshots are tougher so i try to encourage them to shoot the J on every possession.

If you play too tight, your gonna get blown by or worked over with the Pick n Roll.

Yup. So i did some further testing and can confirm that higher defensive assist did give me more bumping and ride animations against the ballhandler. If you keep yourself in good position, the CPU assists from there.

They do not assist if you are not in good position though. You can still get blown by if you're out of position.
