no after u receive the pass

its an easy move but not very effective. i would take the pull up over this move in 99% of the time.

Re: Sidestep before shot

As soon as you catch the ball hold the Left Stick towards the
direction you want to do the step (forward, left, right, back, and
i even think it works diagonal but not entirely sure) plus the
shot button (Square/X or the Right Stick).

It is important to press the Left Stick just BEFORE the
shot button in order to perform the step before you shoot.
Needs a little bit of practice to get the timing but its a very
easy and effective move and a beautiful addition to the game
if you ask me.

Re: Sidestep before shot

Is this the same move as mentioned before?

this seems very effective. Can this also be used as kind of an backstep to shoot a 3?

Yep.

I love doing the pump fake and waiting for the defender to bite, then side stepping for an open look at the basket.

It doesnt work for me with a pump fake, player just moves to the left it doesnt trigger this dribble animation?

Re: Sidestep before shot

I think there are some things that have to be pointed out
to fully understand the concept of these nice little steps before
shooting.

First of all it doesnt only work for "catch and shoot" which
means that you can just stop dribbling and while standing still
you can do a side/forward/back step before shooting the ball.
Doing Stepbacks while running/dribbling is another story.

So if you want to do it with a pump fake it will only work with the
catch and shoot since once you started dribbling you wont be able to
move after a pump fake.

Another thing to know is that every player does the steps different.
I was searching what exactly is responsible for the different step
animations and i found out it depends on which "Dribble Pull up"
animation (Normal 1, Elite 4, Bigman etc...) the player has equipped.

So while some players like James Harden will perform beautiful quick
steps to either sides some other players do some slower steps or even
really huge steps which create even mor space (Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant)

Thx, got it to go now. One thing i noticed is that the shot grade turns down wgen doing this, at least one grade (from A to B), in case of 3s even two grades.

Re: Sidestep before shot

love the move but the success rate is so low while in game compared to practice, and even in practice is miss a crap load of them.
