Are Hook Shots Useless?

Or is it just me?

I've had instances where players with 85+ hookshot rating would barely even hit the rim 2 ft from the rim without any real contest. I was going to post video but wasn't able to for whatever reason.

The whole point of a hook shot in the first place is that it's difficult for the defender to affect the shot (assuming the offensive player is skilled of course which I tend to think 85+ is fairly high on the scale).

I tried turning on release feedback but it either doesn't come up at all or says very late every time.

It's just you, because that's my go-to move in the post, and nope there is no shot feedback on the hooks, so you have to do them in-game and get used to the release points by eyeballing and the feel.

Re: Are Hook Shots Useless?

Soooo, when is the release point generally? On the turn? At the top of the jump?

I practice it in my career games it works really well against smaller players and slower bigs. If my guy is playing me to the right I hook left and vice versa.

In the particular instances that prompted my OP the defender wasn't even making contact with the offensive player. He went the wrong way biting on a fake (or maybe it was the cpu ai being wonky thinking he needed to help somewhere else IDK).

Yeah, I'm having a lot of trouble with the post hooks. I can't get one to fall to save my life.

Re: Are Hook Shots Useless?

They do work. Been playing alot with the Kings and DC is a beast on the bloc. He has a nice hook in close, nice soft touch just gets it on the rim and it rolls in. Having alot of fun with him. Mind you this game is tough, and you have to work for points. Even though he's a beast it's not like you're gonna make all the shots. Cousins has the Post Hook Specialist badge but that's negated when playing against the likes of Jordan and Chandler. He can still make the shot though. Other than that I use alot of fakes and things and he gets alot to the line. He's so physical he's tough to deal with, total bull in a china shop. Lots of animations where he's knocking people over and dunking or just going right through the defender to get at the basket and drawing the foul. As far as I'm concerned playing All Star/Sim it feels very realistic compared to real life.
