How do you defend against the AI?

I've been playing 2K every year since the Dreamcast days and for the life of me I can't figure out how to defend against the AI in this year's game. Each time on defense the AI does one of two things it seems 80% of the time: either a big man sets a pick, I get around the pick but my big man ends up inexplicably switching to the guy I'm still covering and so the other big man cuts to the basket for a pass and easy hoop, or the AI just runs around my defender and I can't get in front of them and so they get an easy lay-up. When I'm on offense I can't just run by defenders, I just bump into them, so how do I do this on defense? Is the meter below your defender indicative of your defense? It seems to be green most of the time for me but the AI still just runs right around them and I can't seem to stop my players from doing the old olé defense. Any tips?

Ugh...this irks me....playing tough D and some contact animation shot and the cpu scores.

There's also the shot clock cheese that happens. Cpu cheap tactics since 2012...

You can put your players to automatically switch in the defensive settings.

As far as the AI running around your defender, that's just 2K lol. "When they wanna score, they gonna score."

I suggest asking in the "Teach me how" sticky- people will give you some good tips there....

Man, the beginning of that clip is exactly what I was talking about, how your teammate AI just stayed on the ballhandler even though you got around the pick and were still covering them.

it drives me nuts. you can deny 'comeback code', but you can't deny that there's code to keep the ai in the game.

Nash switched onto Vasquez, LaFrentz should have rotated to guard Giannis in the paint which was 10x a better matchup than Nash on him.
