Adding the hop would get rid of the awkward fadeaways and leaners when shooting off screens. It gets the shooter squared to the basket quickly so they can get off a good, quick release instead of having to wait 2 to 3 precious seconds to get set thier feet to shoot. The hop is also used when a pass is too far left/right.
