Right Stick vs. Button on Layups
I'm curious. To those who use both or have switched, do you notice a difference in the success rate in your shots? I always use the stick when I go in for layups, and I have consistently missed more shots or get fewer fouls called than my opponents?Tags: None -

I only use the stick on fastbreaks (pushing it forward). That way I don't get a fancy dunk animation but a usual two-handed dunk instead, so I don't get blocked all the time. -

Ever since they've introduce shot stick I've been using right stick for all layups

I use the stick for everything. The only time I use the button is for a few post moves and hop stepping.

I'm a button guy. I need to get used to the stick. I'm totally limiting myself by not using it.Female Russell Westbrook.

Yea that's why I made the switch. I'm starting to think there is no crazy advantage. I've lost to my brother a few times offline. He only uses the button. I think it's about control at the end of day.

Re: Right Stick vs. Button on Layups
I totally think it's control. It's the same reason I use the LS to crossover instead of RS in some situations. I feel like it'd give me a few different options to explore, and I'd be able to control what I do and when I do it.
I use the LS v. RS cross example, because I see these kids do a RS dribble move to "Cross over" coming up the court. If you know the correct timing with the LS, and know the distance you're better off doing that. The difference is the subtle hand change with LS combined with turbo doesn't lose momentum. The RS makes you jerky a bit. That little bit of fluidity makes a huge difference.
I feel like a slight change in fluidity with the RS shooting might allow for a slightly faster play.
I don't think there's a difference in make%. But there's definitely something to be said about moving between animations and scenarios in a more fluid manner.Female Russell Westbrook.

Re: Right Stick vs. Button on Layups
Use the right stick, makes picking which hand to use for a layup much easier and just as importantly choosing how to change your layup in mid-air which finally matters now - I must change my layup at least twice a game, it's really useful when using a skilled ball handler like Kyrie Irving, you can protect the ball and evade shot blockers and make a ton of and-1s.Originally posted by Dogslax41Most people that are asking for a simulation game don’t really want a simulation game because its too hard.Comment

Yea... But you can do that with the button too. So not much is lost there. Just double tap the shot button.Use the right stick, makes picking which hand to use for a layup much easier and just as importantly choosing how to change your layup in mid-air which finally matters now - I must change my layup at least twice a game, it's really useful when using a skilled ball handler like Kyrie Irving, you can protect the ball and evade shot blockers and make a ton of and-1s.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: Right Stick vs. Button on Layups
A little off topic, but I really wish 2K would include an alternative control scheme where the button only shoots jumpshots and the stick only shoots dunks/layups. They'd just have to add some long-range layup animations (which would basically never go in) to keep people from abusing the system and trying to initiate layup animations from 20 ft out.Comment

Re: Right Stick vs. Button on Layups
I use the stick if I'm free with momentum and trying to avoid getting swatted by a help defender. I also use the stick for post shots, up and unders, running hooks, and of course floaters. I use the button for all the sweet shot gathers and stepback moves you can do with them( I absolutely LOVE those moves and wish they had their own dedicated button like 2k13 ;-; ).
I've noticed that in the newer 2ks, using the shot stick when the defender is on your hip isn't responsive at all. Pushing it towards the defender doesn't make me try to bump them or use my body to shield off my shot, and pushing it away from them doesn't make me attempt a finesse layup away from them. So I just use the button when there's contact because I can't get the attempt that I want anyway.
It seems like I finish my layups more with the button.Comment

Noticed this as well...I play broadcast and use absolute controls. They really need to tighten up the right stick...Originally posted by LO6IXI use the stick. It still makes me use the wrong hand sometimes on dunks and layups.
I went for a left handed layup and it made me go up with the right and get blocked. I was so close to throwing the controller.

Re: Right Stick vs. Button on Layups
Okay...that was kinda where my mind is at. I use the shot stick for layups, but it seems that the ensuing contextual layup animation brings the ball right TO the defender. I feel like I'm getting blocked or missing a lot more layups than I should be. On the other hand, I can play near perfect defense on my opponent, and they can make highly contested layup frequently. It could be the Pacers, but I swear misses/blocks are sooooooo lopsided against me. I have had MANY games where I had zero block although my opponent is constantly attacking the paint.Comment
