They don't need to do anything spectacular, just let each player form their own story, and let the world that he plays in, react to that. Maybe you could hear a 30 second clip from a podcast talking about, have a short article written about you on espn.com. Have a crowd react to you like you're a star, if you are a star. Be given the chance to react to what another player said about you. Let what you did in college actually matter. Build rivalries etc. There's a ton of management/simulation games that already do this. Just keep it simple. We don't need a movie.
