Quit Forcing us to use nicknames

first of let me start by saying I love the prelude trailer. I am grateful we get to start our journey early. I appreciate the devs giving us such an early jump on the game. I know it probably took a lot of hard work and hours to make it happy. but I do have one thing that bothered me

I wish we would quit being forced to use nicknames in MyCareer. NOBODY likes it. First it was Freq, not it seems like Prez. this is horrible. There are plenty of ways to skirt around not saying a specific name. I do it all the time when I run into people who's names I don't remember. For example at the end of the trailer they could have changed it around where the person calls and says I am glad we were finally able to reach you, coach K needs has been wanting to talk to you about an opportunity with the olympics. "coach who, what?"
simple. One of the worst things about the past two years is being forced into hearing something you don't want to. It's about our journey, so don't make our journey something we don't want.

Another idea, which I am not that fond of. If you are forced to make us hear and name, choose like 4 or 5 and have them read the lines that pertain to the name with each name.

again, happy as always with what 2k does, but this name forcing thing has got to go.

maybe I am jumping the gun, maybe the trailer is just a placeholder name. but judging on the non response from ronnie and LD I think it's going to stick. I hope maybe the devs can think about this for next year. if you need some help, get me up to 2k, I can teach you how to dance around the name thing in a heartbeat

Re: Quit Forcing us to use nicknames

I disagree. If you're going to have a narrative story, it's very hard to never mention the person's name. That would hurt the story. Also, think about what adding a name entails. They shoot tons of these movie scenes - imagine trying to make a movie where the main character's name had to change and you had to have a version of each scene for a whole list of different alternate names. You need to have all the different versions of the scenes. A longer name would throw off the timing of everything else in the talking back and forth so they'd need to do all that. Do you really want them wasting time with that stuff?

People don't complain about RPGs where you have a name given by the designer - it's just because it's MyCareer and people scan themselves, etc. that they get attached to it.

It's a lot easier to avoid saying someone's name during small talk on the street.

It's another thing entirely to do it for an entire script of cut scenes with actors playing a character.

If they keep going with the cinematic version of MyCareer, it's probably going to stick as it is now. It's just too hard to write a script and never say someones name and nearly impossible to do 100 takes for all the nicknames included in the game already.

It really doesn't bother me much as long as we can change it after our first season.

I'm never good with remembering names so it's very easy to work around it. And I think it's easier in a script because you have more time to work with. On the streets you have to think a little quicker. As far as recordings a bunch of different names, I just meant maybe like 5 different nicknames. Shouldn't be too many lines that involve the name specifically

Eh i personally don't care as long as the game is great - is not confirmed to be prez yet - who knows. Yes i would love it if they changed it - but is not a big deal id say. Plus if they do it there has to be a reason. People always seem to talk as if 2k made things worse on purpose. Many sides to a story - we can't know the full details unless we work at 2k. With the early MP thing - i forgive the name thing. But ofc this is open for discussion and i get that - if they fix it great.

I'd much rather them forcing us to pick a small pool of last names and just call me that instead of Frequency Vibrations...

I'd be ok with nicknames if they weren't dumb crap like "Freq" or "Prez". Give me something I would be ok with being called in real life.

Re: Quit Forcing us to use nicknames

I'm not sure there's a super great solution to all of this as long as the mode is a linear narrative (which I personally despise).

It's kind of just an odd scenario, really. I usually don't have much trouble taking on the character I'm playing in a given adventure or action game but the difference is, those games usually aren't predicated on being myself.

In contrast, here we have MyCareer (née MyPlayer), whose premise has long been something along the lines of "Make your own path". Scan your own face, find your personal jump shot, add your name, choose your jersey number and then... follow a storyline that perfectly matches every single other player who bought the game, aka the antithesis of creating one's own path or story.

As such, yeah, for some folks it's probably pretty weird to have the freedom of being yourself on one side juxtaposed with an awful nickname and typically wack linear storyline on the other (though, we don't know much about this year yet so I'll withhold judgment there).

To be honest, I didn't even like when post-game interview questions in 2K12 didn't have an answer I found normal enough to suit me. So all this other forced personality stuff is on a different planet to me.

It's not a game breaker.. Just kills the immersion a little. I like I'm really into it and then they say the name and I'm like arrgghh

We shouldn't assume that's the nickname. "President of Basketball" is a long, odd nickname. For we all know, he's lying to get a chance to speak to Coach K.

EDIT: For a nickname, he didn't sound too sure whether or not he wanted to identify himself as "Prez".

Disagree on that, I'd rather pick my own last name, nicknames can be ignored, but last names can't.

Could be. I but frequency vibration was kind of long and look what happened. Lol but you could be right. I I'm hoping so

The last names in the game are recorded differently. If they threw the last names in the scene it wouldn't sound smooth. And it would take forever to have someone read each line with every last name in the game (to make it sound realistic) plus they would have to do it every year. Best we can hope for is no name, pool of names, or reading or own lines somehow

I agree I know it's assumption now but it's based on what happened last year. I quit playing My Career honestly because I kept getting referred to as Freq! It's called "My Career" either change the name or I have a misunderstanding of what the mode means!
